I was walking in the city all by myself. Normally Vicky would be with me. But we had a fight. You know that. Anyway, I wanted to buy something for the party so here I was. What are you doing here? You don't know anything about fashion, a little voice inside of me said. You know what. She's right. Call Gigi, maybe she can help you, another voice said. What? No! Call Vicky and apologise, the first voice said. Why? No, that way you're only gonna make it worse! Just call Gigi. She is a real friend, the other voice answered. Oh, stop! I said to myself and kept on walking.
Gigi was Danny's best friend, Dean, his girlfriend. We became friends when we went out all together. She is half-Italian and really kind. And pretty. She has brown curly hair until her shoulders, green eyes and a big smile. She's not so tall, but definitely not short either. I totally understand why Dean wanted her to be his girlfriend.
I couldn't find anything to wear, so I headed for home. Too bad. I walked in the house and shouted an "I'm home" and ran upstairs. I got my coat of and threw it on my bed. I looked at my watch and saw it was six o'clock in the afternoon. We're having dinner in about half an hour. I walked to my wardrobe and opened it. What shall I wear tomorrow? I asked myself. I searched and searched, but couldn't find anything really nice. After 15 minutes searching, I decided I would wear the disco-ball-shirt with those white pants I had bought with Vicky. Hmm, Vicky. I wonder if she's thinking about our fight, just like I do, I thought. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Her words kept flying through my head. Maybe she was right. Maybe I should keep myself to myself. That's the best.
-Alyssa!! My mum interrupted my thoughts. Come! We're eating! I ran downstairs and sat on the chair I always sat.
-So... What did you cook for us mum? I asked as soon as she walked in the dining room with a pot in her hands.
-Didn't I tell you this morning? I went for something easy and quick to prepare. Spaghetti with red sauce. She said while putting the pot on the table and serving for us.
-Yum! It's delicious! I said after she had served and I had taken a mouthful of my food. My parents laughed.
-Now let's talk about tomorrow, shall we? My dad said and looked around the table.
-Don't need to! I said. Me and mum already talked about that.
-Doesn't matter. Dad spoke. I have to tell you. So, we believe you are responsible and trustworthy enough to let you this weekend alone.
-Yes, yes, mum said that, too.
-Honey just listen to your father. Mum told me.
-We know it's your birthday and it's too bad that we can't be here with you. But we can't do different. Your grandma is ill. He cleared is throat. Very ill. We have to go. But you said it yourself, that you didn't mind at all. He continued. Anyway, we wanted to give you your present already. Do you mind?
-Of course not. I stared at my dad who walked to the living room and stared with even more wide eyes when he walked back in the dining room with a small package.
-Here you are. He said smiling and he gave it to me. I ripped the wrapping paper and my small smile turned into a big, wide one.
-Wow, thank you so so much! I love you! I gave them both a kiss and then looked full interest at the box in my hands. My parents had bought me a new mobile phone! It's an iPhone 5! I felt like I was walking on air. I quickly opened the box and when I touched the phone I was so enthusiastic that it made me jump. It was too good to be true. And what's more it made me forget about the fight with Vicky for a while.
~The Next Day~
I opened my eyes. It's saturday, was the first thing I thought. And it's my birthday! I smiled. And it's my party-day. My smile got even bigger. I looked at my clock. Half past nine. My parents would leave in half an hour. I jumped out of my bed and put on some clothes. I washed my face, brushed my hair and grabbed my glasses. Then I ran downstairs automatically heading for the living room.
-Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Alyssa! Happy birthday to youu!! My parents sang when they saw me getting in the room. They both hugged me and kissed me and then my mother walked to the kitchen. Very nice, mum. It's my birthday and your going to the kitchen. Thank you, I thought. But then she walked back in holding a plate with pancakes and chocolate and of course, a small lit candle in the middle.
-Make a wish! My mum said. I wished my party would be a succes and then I blew off the small fire. My dad looked at the clock. It was already ten o'clock.
-Margaret. He said. We have to leave. My smile faded. We are really sorry, Alyssa, but you know... I nodded.
-It doesn't matter, dad. You already made my day. I smiled at him and so they left for a long journey to go see my granny.
It was 19.30 and my whole body was trembling from anxiety. I had cleaned up the house and had moved the breakable objects in it to my parents room, which I locked. I had also locked the computer room and the studyroom. I had blown up balloons and thrown the around the living room and dining room. I had also made place for Danny's cousin, the DJ, where he can put his equipment.
I stood in the living room and looked around me. I guess this is good enough for a party. I ran to my bedroom and changed into my clothes, you know, the disco-ball-shirt and those skinny jeans. I walked to the bathroom and started brushing my hair.
I thought of my first date with Danny. Vicky had done my make-up back then. Now I had to do it myself. I had already taken my mother's make-up-suitcase. I opened it and stared full of interest at the content of the suitcase. My mum had a lot of eye-shadows, lipglosses, lipsticks, brushes and... pencils? Why's that? A few things were missing but I assumed my mother had taken them. I tried do imitate everything I remembered Vicky had done and I actually looked pretty nice in the end. I had also tried those pencils. I looked on the internet to see what to do with them. And it turned out pretty easy. I put my glasses back on and wore my all-stars. Then I heard the bell and walked downstairs to open it.
Danny and his cousin were standing in the open door.
-Hey, happy birthday! Danny said and gave me a kiss. This is my cousin, James.
-Hi, happy birthday! James said, he gave me his hand and I shook it. I looked at the tall boy. He had blonde hair, just like Danny, and brown friendly eyes.
-Hello, I am Alyssa. I said and stepped aside so they could come in.
-Wow! James said with an open mouth when he walked in the living room. This is a big living room. I assume I am going to do my work there? He pointed at the place I had prepared.
-Yeah. I answered.
-This party is going to be awesome. Danny said hugging me.
