If home is where the heart is..

then we're all just fucked

"No." I replied

In fact, I was completely in no way okay.

I am never okay, but being rescued made me think about my situation.

I literally got kidnapped, forgot what day it was and decided I had to stay with some guy that almost got me caught and killed. I try to ignore the insults spewed at me every day, but I couldn't when I realized they were true.

People always tell you to keep your head high and that you're beautiful and don't need to change, but what if you are kinda horrible? Honesty is key, friends.

This seems hard when you realize that your realization wasn't real. (That was the weirdest sentence I've ever written). You think you've gotten your head out of your ass, but you haven't. All those things they've said are true. Here stands Annabeth Chase, too caught up in her own misery to realize she's with her kidnapper.

"So, maybe I missed something. I thought Luke was some popular cool kid? What the fuck happened?" Percy said aggressively, striking me out of my thoughts.

I sighed. "Where ya been, Jackson?"

"You were too stuck up to notice me until you came back from vacation, Chase."

First, who said Thalia Luke and I went on vacation? Second, it was true. Anyone that wasn't a terrible flirt or that didn't look at attention like a right, I ignored.

"Tell you what you missed later, kay?" I replied to Percy, wanting to ask him how the hell he found me and why he cared.

One of his crew members (he had three, it was hardly a crew) called the police as soon as they saw Luke. I asked Percy who they were, and he said some quiet kids who always wondered about me. Nico, Bianca and Ethan, I think. Not crazy popular Ethan. There's a lot of Ethan's in my school. I was flattered, nonetheless.

Luke got out, I got taken to the station and was asked various questions and was checked on at the hospital. I finally got to talk to Percy later on that day at the station, and ask him a question I was meaning to ask him all day.

"Why did you save me?"

He looked at me for a second, probably forgetting I thought I was worthless.

"Why wouldn't I save you?"

I had a billion responses to explain why he wouldn't save me, but I decided not to say any of them.

I was just finishing up at the station when Percy reminded me of something.

"You said you'd explain to me what happened to Luke."

I sighed. "It's a long story, but I''ll give it a go."

I told him to sit down. We ended up at the park where we fought, which felt like only yesterday but had really been a month.

"So. It starts April 2013. I was fourteen, I thought nothing could go wrong in life. I'd had everything since I was little. Other than my family, of course. I always escaped to someplace with Luke and Thalia. 2014 rolled around, life was same old same old. Thals, Luke and I thought nothing could get in our way. So we left. We had plans for New York City or some other big place, because life was just lovely. We never made it, though. We got attacked, then picked up by some group called Thompson in Vermont, we never even made it to New York state. The group took care of us, but this guy Logan hated us for some reason, especially Luke. This one day in March 2014, the police came for one of the guys who had a record I guess. Logan freaked and grabbed his gun, saying it was Luke's fault. He shot it, and Thalia dove in front of Luke. She got shot. We ran, trying to get to hospital, but Thalia died before we made it."

Percy had probably said something, but my crying was not letting me hear.

"Luke turned kinda psycho, and got himself caught. I came in with him, but I had 'family' so I had to go back. Luke had no one and claimed he killed Thalia, so he got sent to prison. I got home, and everyone hated me. It's all fucking lovely, ain't it?"

Percy gave me a look of concern, something I hadn't seen in awhile.

"I am so sorry." He said

"Don't be."

I sighed.

I was walking to school on my first day back. Earbuds shoved in my ears, toque on my head and hands shoved aggressively in my pockets. Everyone had their Christmas lights on, and if I forgot where I was going, Bristol could look really cute. The snow sprinkled on the lawns, everyone's blown up decorations or tacky lights, and the decorated trees in the windows. It was early and cold so I could see my breath making patterns in the air, and you could see parents scolding their children about the importance of warmth, and I'm pretty sure a couple of them pointed at me as a 'See! You don't want to end up like her! All cold.' I was excited for Christmas to see if my wish came true. It was to get out of this town, but I wasn't sure if that could happen.

Percy ran up next to me, panting.

"Hey, cappuccino"

I glared at him, not appreciating the new nickname.

He laughed

"Can I tell you something?" He asked

I looked at him, confused

"Hit me."

"If my friends start making fun of you, lemme know. I'll kick their asses." Percy said

I gave him a huge grin.

"I can kick their asses myself, Mr. Perfect."

"I'm sure you can, but have you?" Percy said, with a smirk

"Touche."

He grinned at me, overwhelmingly happy for a reason I was unsure of.

Percy then kissed me on the cheek. I blushed, as any sane person would.

He laughed at me again. "You look cute when you're embarrassed."

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty happy with myself for publishing so much recently. This chapter is pretty cute so I really like it, because most of my chapters are fairly depressing.

Also, Happy Christmas! For Christmas from you to me, lemme know something about you. I wanna know more about you. For mine, I'm Canadian. I usually take bits from my own life, so that's why I'm constantly writing about how cold it is.

See you soon with another Chapter,

Maeve ☺
