As my eyes wondered around the rec room, I made eye contact with Sillvy. Right then, I'm reminded I never did apologize to her. As pathetically juvenile as it seemed, she was still my friend, it was time.
"Sillvy, I'm sorry. I don't know what got in to me that day. Friends?" I apologized.
"No need Jayden, I'm pretty positive some of the side-effects to that crap they put into us results in uncontrollable mood swings." Sillvy responded understandably, shrugging her shoulders.
"I get mood swings too!" Bennet exclaimed. "What do you suppose that's all about?" He continued and asked.
"We're lab rats Bennet, we don't get the luxury to ask questions." Grey replied coldly.
"When is enough? I just wanna go home, I don't want to spend and share my birthday with you all anymore , I just want to spend them with my family. I just wanna go homeeee..." Wylly sobbed clutching onto Grey's hoodie arm sleeve.
Grey appeared to feel pity for Wylly, and wrapped her hand with his.
"I... I understand. In a way, I feel the same." Grey said tightening his grip on her hand, while looking strictly across the table at Sillvy.
In time Wylly left the rec room, followed by Silvia, and Bennet. All that was left was Grey and I.
He sat in his chair seemingly focused on the piece of half eaten cake that was on the table in front of him.
"You've changed Cole... we've all changed..." I whispered under my breath, saddened at the thought of the five of us just a year ago, and how our demeanors have changed on our out look on everything.
Our lives have been so rushed these past couple of years.
It's truly all a blur."I know." Grey pondered for a moment.
" Jayde... I have something for you." He said, his eyes awakening a bit.
"Grey, you don't have to give me anything..." I assured him.
"I know. But I want you to have this." He insisted, as he pulled a small object out of his hoodie pocket.
He handed it to me, dropping it onto the palm of my hand saying, "No two marbles are ever the same."
It was beautiful, it was hazel like with colored speckles, and it was now mine. My eyes swelled with tears out of no where... 'Oh please don't cry over a marble!' I begged myself.
"I love it, Cole." I assured him and found myself with a small smile on my face.
"It's been a while sense I've seen that. Almost Marble Eyes." Grey said staring into my eyes. He was right. It felt good to feel something positive again.
But just then I'm quickly reminded that our time was ticking and it wouldn't be long before the guards would send us back to our individual rooms again...
"Grey! What was it you needed to tell me?" I stressed knowing I couldn't go another day just not knowing!
He looked surprised at my sudden change of thought. "I'm not sure if it's safe for me to say."
"Please, don't keep anything from me! I promise you can tell me!" I replied desperately.
"Something is happening to me... I... I can- I can do things." He halfway answered.
"Like what things?" He had my full attention but suddenly the timer went off.
I'd have to wait another month before I could speak to him again... 'whatever could he mean?'
I could see from the corners of my eyes the guards getting closer to us...
Grey took my hands and looked me in the eyes, sharing every emotion with mine, and hastily said, "Jayden, whatever happens to me...
...your going to make it home."
And then the guards broke us apart, dividing us to our separate directions.
