She ran to the computer, desperate to escape the hell that was her real life. She thought she could bury herself in music and art and anything else that would distract her. She might browse a few books, run away into a fantasy game, or even just stare at the screen; she didn't care. All she knew was that she had to think about something, anything else.
She opened up the last browser she had used, and slowly began clicking on a few pop-up ads. Before she could delve too deeply into her Internet safe house, however, she noticed an old account she had made years ago on an old messaging website.
On her profile, there was a picture of her as a young girl, possibly twelve or thirteen, and a description written with different colors on each sentence.
"Hi! I'm Jen and I'm 12 years old!" The description read, "I love dogs and books and movies and everything colorful! The world is my backyard, and I love making new friends! Message me if you're 12 or 13. Don't be creepy!"
Jenna sighed at her twelve-year-old self.
"If only you knew." She said quietly, deleting all the remnants of her former description and simply writing "Jenna. 17." She also changed her profile picture to a picture of a dying rose she had drawn earlier that year.
Little did she know that this simple profile would change her life forever; whether it be good or not.
