Drake’s mug was slowly tipping, the content of black coffee threatening to spill out any moment.

I reached out, tugging the mug from his loose grip, and his eyes fluttered, but never opened.

I set it down on the counter in passing as I got up, wandering out of the kitchen.

The sun was rising outside, and Corey still wasn’t back yet, he and Ivy had been up all night translating that book.

Taking the stairs up to my room, I passed by my bed where Reaver was sound asleep. Demon’s seemed to have opposite schedules of vampires; they liked to be up when the sun was and asleep when the moon was out.

I personally wavered between both, though half the time I couldn’t sleep anyway.

I ambled into the bathroom to rinse my face off and put my hair up; trying to revive some liveliness after being up all night worrying.

Reaver didn’t seem awfully worried; which I found odd. I mean, if there’s a rebellion they’re going to take down the government, and in less than a month him and I will be the sole leaders of the country. For right now it was just me, and that left me with a thousand times more weight on my shoulders.

I peered into the mirror, liking my more lively appearance. My lips had the color back to them and my skin was creamy again. As I raked my hands through my long curls I noticed the reddish tint under the light and I looked closer; seeing my roots growing in already.

I sighed. Guess I needed another trip to the hair salon.

I’ll schedule that somewhere between the wedding and the vampires trying to take over the country.

I decided a shower was in order; I stood under the hot water for awhile, just trying to savor the feel of the warmth on my skin. My muscles were still tense when I stepped out, wrapping a towel around myself.

When I walked back out into the room, I found the bed empty, and the sunlight was streaming in brightly through the windows.

I slipped on a light blue dress, and then strolled over to the fireplace, feeling a bit of a chill. I stroked a match to life and lit the wood piled up neatly beneath the mantel.

Stifling a yawn, I felt the warmth as the flames grew quickly into a roaring fire and I grabbed another couple pieces of the wood to keep it going.

I leant forward, crouching to toss the chunk of wood into the fire. My hand touched too close to the flames, getting caught in a flicker of red sparks. Before I knew what was happening, the ring on my finger burned against the flesh, and glowing a deep purple color where symbols were inscribed on the silver band.

A crack of sound echoed off the walls; like the sound of thunder; booming in my ears and sending me falling to the floor, catching myself with the heels of my palms.

My breath escaped me in a gasp as I hit the floor, and a crackling static of purple electricity crawled against my skin, frighteningly real and zapping through the air like hotwires.
