Some people don't understand that what we have with God is a relationship. Or at least it's meant to be. They don't understand that that's what God actually wants. God isn't a religion. It isn't all about following all the commandments, making sure that you take communion, go to church every Sunday. Those things don't make you a Christian (although they are important factors that help build your relationship with God).

A relationship with God. That's what it is that makes Christianity so special. The fact that it's so real and personal. It's an intimate relationship.

But the thing about a relationship is that relationships don't just happen. A relationship takes effort to create, to build. A relationship can't be one sided, otherwise it doesn't work. If only one person is ever putting in any effort than it's not going to be a relationship. It's going to be one person investing into a stranger.

What we have with God is a relationship. And we always need to work on our relationship with God. We need to spend time with him. Talk to him. Be with him. Love him. Seek him. Learn about him.

That's what we do with our friends and family. That's what we need to do with God too. Our relationship with God really isn't that different to the relationships that we have with our friends and family. Except for the fact that this relationship is with the King of all the earth.

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

Thats something that we have to do. We have to draw near to God. Some people complain saying, I'm not getting anything out of this relationship with God. Or, Gods not doing anything for me.

God's done everything for us! We need to make an effort too. After all he's done, really, it's the least we can do.

So I hope that this has motivated you all. Spend time with God. Read your bible. Spend time praying. Or just talking to him. Spend time in worship or listening to worship music. Write out your own devotional, see what God gives you.

I never have to go and make a devotional for this book. I don't actually have to put in that much effort. I just have to be open to what God wants to speak through me.

Spend time with God. Build your relationship with him.

A relationship doesn't happen if you sit there.
