Aaron sighed, burying his face in his hands. Today was the worst day of his life.
The day Aphmau was to marry Zane.
After years of being the best of friends, Zane had asked Aphmau to marry him. Which seemed sudden. Aaron hadn't even heard of them dating. He wasn't aware that they were a thing. But Aphmau had said yes.
Yes.
Aaron had never told Aphmau how much he loved her. Perhaps it was that he had never learned how to get along with others or express his feelings. At least, that's what he wanted to believe. But Aaron knew that wasn't true. Not entirely. He hadn't told her out of cowardice. He was afraid of rejection. That he'd ruin their friendship if he took that chance. And now she was about to be stolen from him.
Aaron hadn't even realized he was crying until the tears landed on the faded denim of his jeans. He let them fall. The love of his life was marrying another. Aaron felt that justified a pity party and maybe a few tears.
"Is Aaron~Kun alright?" He heard a meek voice ask.
Aaron looked up to see Kawaii~Chan staring down at him. "Why isn't Aaron~Kun at Aphmau~Senpai's wedding?" She asked. The question sent a sharp pain through Aaron's chest. He choked on the air in his lungs.
"I don't think I can make it." He said weakly.
"Is Aaron crying?!" She shouted. Immediately she was beside him, her thin arms wrapped around his shaking shoulders. "Are he alright?!" She cried.
"No." Aaron said bitterly. "I don't... I can't see Aphmau get married."
"...to a man that isn't you." Kawaii~Chan whispered. Aaron looked up at her, surprised. She knew?
"Listen, Aaron." She said seriously. "Aphmau doesn't want to marry Zane."
Aaron was shocked. "What?"
Kawaii~Chan rolled her eyes. "Oh, honestly Aaron. Does Aaron~Kun seriously think she wants a silly second name?! No! She's in love with you!"
Aaron shook his head. "That simply isn't possible." He said. "She said yes when Zane proposed."
"Aphmau's mother wants grandchildren!" Kawaii~Chan insisted. "Aphmau~Senpai thought Aaron would never say he wanted her and she got desperate! Please! Aaron! Aaron can't let Aphmau get married!"
"What am I supposed to do?" Aaron snorted. "Crash the wedding?"
"YES!" Kawaii~Chan shouted right in his face. "RUN, AARON! GO!"
Aaron just started running. He didn't know why. He knew she didn't want him. But something about the way Kawaii~Chan screamed it just made him want to run.
He was running down the street towards the village. Not even bothering to get in his car. He wasn't even thinking about it. All he was doing was running. Running faster than he ever had in his life. Running for the slim chance that Kawaii~Chan was right and that Aphmau did love him.
Did Aphmau love him?
He ran faster. His lungs burned. His legs felt like they were on fire. He was still in his sweatpants and red jacket. He wasn't even wearing sneakers. His house slippers slapped loudly against the pavement as he ran.
I'm coming, Aphmau.
He rounded the corner to Gordon Street. He could see the chapel in the distance. The white tower seemed glowed in the sun. The cast iron cross atop the tower stood out against the beautiful blue sky. It was the perfect day for a wedding.
He was practically crying again by the time he threw open the doors to the church. "I OBJECT!" He shouted down the isle.
Everyone collectively gasped and turned to look at him. Including the bride. What little breath he still had was knocked out of him at the sight.
She was wearing a traditional white dress. It was a bit plain, but that's what was so great about it. It let you focus on the beauty of the person wearing it instead of drawing attention away from her to the flashy details. And she was gorgeous.
"Aaron?" She gasped. "What–?"
He ran forward, desperate to get closer to her. The petals swirled around his feet as he ran past everyone gathered there in the pews. He stopped in front of her and looked her dead in the eyes.
"Aphmau." He said firmly. "There's.... So much I need to say to you. I'm sorry it's all on your wedding day."
She was silent, staring at him hopefully, like she was waiting for this all along. Zane looked infuriated. But Aaron paid no mind to him. He was focused on Aphmau and only Aphmau.
Kind, wonderful Aphmau.
"There's no way to sugar coat this." Aaron blurted before he could lose the nerve. "I love you. I've always loved you, Aphmau. I've loved you since high school. You've always been there for me. Even when I wasn't there for you."
Aaron sighed. "And I've really screwed up now. I didn't tell you how I feel. I almost let you get married to someone I know can never satisfy you. Not like I can. Not like I will if you come with me."
Aaron held out his hand to her.
"I will love you for the rest of your life." Aaron promised. "I will cherish your friendship today and tomorrow... Forever. I will trust and honor you as you deserve. I'll laugh with you in good times and cry with you in bad. I will be faithful. Because I love you, Aphmau. So please..."
Aphmau didn't need to hear anymore. She reached out and grabbed Aaron's hand. Giggling, she started running, pulling him down the isle with her. She tossed her bouquet off to the side as she went. Zane called after her, tried to grab her, but she was out of his reach. She was gone. She had left him the moment Aaron came into the church. Because Aphmau returned Aaron's feelings. Because Aphmau didn't love Zane, could never love Zane, the way she loved Aaron.
They spent the rest of their life together. Had children. Got married themselves. But it was their wedding. Aaron had won the love of his life.
Looking back, Aaron was glad he crashed the wedding.

That was SO FUN! I love that song! Shit bitch, I don't know anything about the band or anything, but it's just so GOOD. It's cute, it's romantic, and it tells a good story. Something I can work with and make into the story I wrote today. I hope y'all enjoyed Aaron crashing the wedding!
