They came on a Wednesday.
It was already dark outside, the streetlamps illuminating the stone road outside, casting dark shadows on sidewalks and alleys. It was with a flurry of whooshing sounds that several figures landed on the grounds outside. There was a young boy of about fifteen or sixteen looking curiously around, seeming to not understand why exactly they were there.
His attention was drawn away from the lineup of houses by a rugged man handing him a slip of paper with what Alice was sure was the address to the house she was currently in. Suddenly he looked up, his facial features morphing into surprise at whatever he was seeing. He wasn't allowed to admire for too long, the gaggle of people rushing towards the entrance to the Order of the Phoenix headquarters.
Breaking away from her view at the upstairs window, Alice walked out of her room and down to the kitchen where she briefly saw Molly Weasley rush around the kitchen at the sound of the new people entering.
Taking an apple from a bowl at the center of the table, the brunette leaned against the kitchen counter, taking in her surroundings.
Sirius Black was waiting anxiously for his godson to appear while everyone else in the Order was seated in varying positions around the kitchen. Remus Lupin was still looking a little shaky from the full moon he had been forced to endure not too long ago and the other teenagers were nowhere to be seen and Alice suspected that they were somewhere upstairs, arguing with each other. It was all they had done for last few hours and it was starting to grate on the brunette's nerves.
With her free hand, Alice fiddled with her new wand, running her hand over the ridges and bumps along the handle, nervousness flooding through her at the prospect of meeting the boy she had heard so much about.
There was a loud clang and it seemed everyone in the kitchen grimaced as Mrs. Black started screeching at the top of her lungs.
"Filth! Scum! Half-Breeds, mutants, freaks, begone from this place! How dare you befoul the house of my fathers!?" the sheer volume of the deceased woman's voice made Alice want to cover her ears in pain. Sirius ran out of the room and into the hall where the source of the commotion was.
"Shut up, you miserable old hag! Quiet!"
"Blood traitor, abomination, shame of my flesh!" her words were scathing, malice painting them like poison.
"Yes, yes, do shut up!" suddenly the noise was muted, a sigh of relief leaving everyone. There were muted voices out in the hallway and Molly parted from the stove, spoons stirring themselves, to go greet Harry, her voice announcing that the meeting was about to start and that Harry should go upstairs to see Ron and Hermione.
The stout red-headed matriarch came bustling into the room, Sirius following at a much more relaxed stroll.
The meeting was rather bland, the adults discussing more raids and what seemed to be an infiltration mission if the building plans on the table meant anything. Nothing held any real significance for Alice so she stayed leaning against the kitchen counter, fiddling with her wand in her pocket and trying to memorize the spells she had already been taught in the short time she had been there. They had realized shortly after her trip to Diagon Alley that she didn't have the trace on her, allowing her to practice magic freely without having to worry about the Ministry.
It came as a surprise to everyone at how adept at spellwork Alice was, sometimes leaving people suspicious at just how well she was. So far she had learned the most basic of spells, including the levitation charm and the simple stunner. The first time she had attempted that, it had left Remus Lupin on the floor unconscious for several minutes which had scared the brunette half to death, not wanting to harm the man trying to teach her.
