Chapter 6

Selena's POV

It was Wednesday.

Jason didn't come back last night. He had sent a simple text message saying he was spending the night and his friend's house.

He was obviously still pissed at me, or well us.

Justin was getting the paternity test results back today but we weren't worried about it because we both knew when we got back home, he would be coming with us.

I had no clue how everyone would take it but I was hoping they would be accepting of him.

I figured Jordan and Ethan would be fairly easy to win over but Emory and Jason on the other hand...

"Sel? Babe we're here." I snapped out of the daze I was in and turned to see Justin holding my door, waiting for me to exit the car.

"Sorry. I zoned out." I grabbed my purse and quickly stepped out.

"It's fine baby. Come on."

I took his hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze as we made our way into the building. He brought it to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on my knuckles which made me smile.

I immediately spotted them. She was sitting with her son on one of the chairs.

He was hugging her tightly and she was gently rubbing his back as his shoulders shook.

I felt my heart break as I realized he was crying. The woman turned to face me and her face contorted into shock to match mine.

Sasha Johnson.

I had gone to school with her. We were once best friends.

"We have the results. As it turns out the test is negative. Mr. Bieber is not the father of Cameron Johnson."

I watched as she began to cry.

I left Justin to speak to the lawyers about us adopting Cameron as I made my way over to her.

"Sasha." I whispered.

"S-Selena. I'm so sorry." She sobbed. "I-I thought that-"

"Shh. It's okay. Calm down." I reached out to rub her arms hoping to some kind of comfort.

When she managed to calm herself down I smiled sadly at her. "Mind explaining what's going on?"

She nodded. "Cam would you please stay here while I talk to her?" He looked at me then back at his mother and hesitantly nodded, freeing himself of her hold and walking over to a different chair where he sat down and put in his headphones.

I took his seat next to her.

"Okay well, you remember how I was in high school right? How much I had changed?" She began.

"How could I forget? It was the reason we stopped talking."

She nodded, biting her lower lip.

"Right. Well I continued like that even after we graduated, even into college. Justin and I hooked up almost fifteen years ago. It was around that time I got pregnant. I was also sleeping with other guys at that time cause you know, one night stands were my thing." Her voice broke.

"Anyways, once I found out I was pregnant I cleaned up my act and I raised him by myself. But now - Selena, I found out I have cancer. The doctor said I had less than six months to live." We were both crying at this point.

"I contacted Justin because I knew he could support him. Give him a proper family. I'm leaving the country after this to start my treatment but I don't want him to see me like that. I want him to remember me like I am now. Not weak and sick. I want him to have good memories of me."

"Does he know?"

"No. I wrote him a letter explaining everything for him. I was hoping that this test would be positive that way I know he won't go into the system. Justin is a good guy. I'm happy that you two found each other. I knew if he way his dad then he would take good care of him. I know I'm rambling and not making any sense. I'm sorry. I just really don't know what to do now."

"Sash, Justin and I talked and we decided that we were going to adopt Cameron even if the test was negative."

"R-really?"

"Yeah. Same reason. I wouldn't want him to go through the system. But you know, you don't have to leave. You can stay with him until.."

She shook her head. "I don't want him to see me like that. Thank you Selena. And for what it's worth. I thought about you a lot. I missed having you as my best friend."

"I missed you too. So much. I can't believe that I'm going to lose you again."

"Hey, I'm always going to be looking at yall, especially since you're going to have my baby. Promise me you'll take good care of him please."

"I promise you."

I looked over at Justin and saw him going through the legal documents with his lawyer.

"Thank you Selena. So much."

I hugged her tightly. Jesus this was one mess after the other.

She called Cameron back over to us and he sat on the other side of his mother.

"Cam, this is Selena. She used to be my best friend. Justin is her husband and they're both going to adopt you."

"Why can't I stay with you?" He asked quietly.

"I'm so sorry baby. Soon enough you'll understand I promise. Selena is going to take good care of you okay. She'll love you for me. Anytime you miss me just remember that I'm doing this for you. This is what's best. I love you babyboy. More than you can ever imagine."

He looked at me, his lips wavering.

"You're going to get tired of me and kick me out. Mom please don't go. They won't put up with me, not like you do."

I moved so that I was kneeling on the floor in front of him.

"That's not going to happen. Once those papers are signed you'll be our kid Cameron and I promise you, I will never allow you to feel like you aren't and neither will Justin."

He shook his head. "You're saying that now b-but I get scared a lot and I'm clingy and I'm not good with people and being on my own and-"

"Shh. It's okay babyboy." Sasha soothed him.

I took his hand in mine. "That's okay. I'll stay with you okay. I'll be there whenever you're scared. You can stay with me as much as you want. It's not a problem."

He looked at his mom. "She's being sincere Cam. I know Selena and she'll do everything she can to make you happy."

"Okay."

I wanted to take away all his pain. He was so young.

"Babe, I need you signature along with Sasha's." We both got up and went over to sign the papers.

"Well then, it's official. Cameron is now officially Cameron Bieber, adopted son of you both." Justin's lawyer said with a smile.
