I wake up with my face feeling sticky with tears from last night.  Slowly, so the light doesn’t hurt them, I open my eyes and find the love of my life staring at me.  His brown eyes shine with emotion as he reaches over and traces my jawbone with his fingertips.  I take in his disheveled brunette hair, and how wide awake he looks, even though he has bags under his eyes.

“Eric?”

“Yes?”

“How long have you been awake?”

He sighed and turned away before looking straight at me and answering.  “I never went to sleep sweetie.  You know I can’t stand for you to be in pain, and you cried yourself to sleep last night.  What if you had woken back up and I wasn’t there for you?”

His indescribably amazing eyes pleaded with me to understand why he didn’t rest at all.  It was my turn to sigh now.  “I don’t deserve you.”  I said, before I leaned over and kissed him lightly on the lips to show him I loved him.

“Of course you do!” Eric exclaimed with a look of fake surprise, and I knew what was coming next.  Before he even opened his mouth I started blushing.  “You’re beautiful,” he kissed my forehead.  “You’re caring,” he kissed the tip of my nose.  “You’re kind…” he kissed my cheek.  “Smart…” he kissed my neck.  “Sweet…” he reached for my hand and kissed the inside of my wrist.  “And you’re adorable when you blush like that,” he kissed my lips gently, while my face grew pinker.

Once most of my blushing had subsided, I reached out to caress his face.  I ran my thumb over his eyebrows, traced his lips with my fingers, outlined his jaw, and then kissed him with so much passion it should be illegal.

After a few more kisses, we both didn’t make any effort to get up so I cuddled closer to him.  “Eric?” I asked again.

“Yes, my angel?” I blushed at our sweet inside joke before continuing with my question.

“What… I mean, what, exactly… happened, last night?” After finally getting the words out, a sense of relief flooded me, before being replaced by angst.

His smile slowly faded and his tone of voice became more serious than before.  “Alaska, I think you need to rest some more before we talk about that."

Wondering what could have been that bad, but not willing to find out, I decided to pretend that nothing was wrong and instead go back to sleep.  So I draped one leg over both of his, laid my head on his chest, and let his heartbeat sooth me to sleep while he stroked my hair.
