"Sir, I und--" Jadius said reaching out to him.
"Don't touch me!" My dad shouted in his face.
"Dad..." I called to him slowly.
I put my hand out, not exactly sure where to put it and looked at him solemnly. My face reflected in his eyes for a moment then got all blurry. He sighed as though he had been defeated.
"Jax," he took my hand in his.
"I know we haven't exactly been the closest and I definitely wouldn't deserve father of the year but... Jax, I love you. I tried to keep you safe and protect you." With every tear that fell from my father, I felt my own welling up.
"I love you, too." I hugged him for a long while.
"Awh, damn! Ain't that sweet?" A huge man with another beastly scar on his face walked through the door from the back.
There must be something in the water.
I released my father and we all turned to face the man. He towered well over 6 feet and had huge muscles covered in bloody blue veins bulging from his skin. He looked like a man straight off a comic book at the museums. I sat in a sort of trance for a moment and stared at him. He was huge! "...Got it?" The huge man bellowed.
"Huh?" I had gotten lost in thought.
His face contorted and he shut his eyes for a split second and deeply inhaled then exhaled."We get you your stuff; armor, weapons, you know. Tomorrow you will immediately start combat training and tactic training. Alone, though, unlike the other ones. Training goes on until we think you are ready but keep in mind; training will get harder with each day. So I suggest you try your hardest," Jadius nodded in the background mundanely. "After training you will have exactly one day to clean up your room and say goodbye. No more, no less." Damn, this guy was serious.
"So--" I started to say.
"Don't interrupt me. After you say your goodbyes..." He paused, maybe for dramatic effect. "You will be sent to front lines."
I flinched at his words and I could tell my father was just recovering. I wasn't sure whether it was okay for me to talk but I spoke anyways. "Why me? Don't you have to be 20? I'm only 17."
"Yeah, we know." A hint of bitterness was in his voice but he looked heartbroken.
"What's your name?" I asked.
He looked at me for a split second then turned on his heel and walked out from the door he entered in. It shut behind him and you heard the heavy industry lock clamp down from underneath. I heard his military boots stomp down even after he had left and I heard him make a hard right into a room. We all stood silently, twirling our thumbs.
"Let me show you to your living quarters." Jadius hollered with a little to much pep.
"Uhm... yeah." I hugged my father and he nodded at me.
"Stay safe." I whispered to him as I took a step towards Jadius.
"As to you!" He yelled, his eyes were wide.
Jadius motioned for me to follow him with his head. I got to the door that lead to the back and turned to see my dad for the last time for a while. He was struggling against the guards that were holding him back, trying to get away to come towards me.
"Please! Don't take my son! He's all I got. Jax! Jax! Let go! I need to have my son! Please! He's all I have to live for!" I took off running towards him but Jadius grabbed me.
"Guards!" His nice demeanor quickly turned sour and malicious. "Take him back to living center."
Guards rushed into the room and took me to the back door that had been used a thousand times. I wanted to run out and hug him and take him with me but that would be selfish.
"I love you Dad! I love you!" I kept screaming because some part of me felt he couldn't hear me.
Jadius followed the guards as they forcefully escorted me away. Once the doors shut I couldn't hear my father anymore and I sunk down to the floor and shed my first tear this whole time.
"Sorry I lost my composure back there." Jaduis smiled widely with his head tilted slightly to the side.
This man was creepy as hell.
I shook my head and my shoulders slumped. This was it, huh? I continued to cry into my curled up body, feeling all the pain from the loss.
