The sun beat mercilessly down on Jennifer. She squeezed her eyes tightly, unable to bear the scorching heat that was burning her face. She placed her hands on the ground as support to get up, but her fingers ran through the rocky, loose sand. She managed to get herself upright with much difficulty and as she slowly adjusted her vision to the luminous day, her mouth hung open in shock.
The vast waters of the sea encompassed the small sandy island she was deserted on. No one was around. Tall, towering coconut trees laden with fruit dotted the island. The atmosphere was lit and silent; except for the waves that made shushing sounds as they hit the beach.
She felt groggy. She massaged her sore eyes and brushed her unruly hair that was caked in sand to the back of her head.
Her skin felt crusty; large sand granules stuck to her like burrs. Her mouth tasted salty. She was parched. Tired. Anxious. Hungry. Lonely.Where am I, she thought wonderingly as she made slow, heavy steps across the sandy beach. Her will to survive kept her ahead of giving up and resting her aching body. Jen thought maybe if she scouted the entire Island, she would be able to find resources that could keep her alive until she figured a way to get off the island and get back home.
She dragged her legs across the ground as she was too tired take her usually large steps. Her face was red and itchy as the the sand scratched it. Her mouth was bruised; dark blue and black highlighted the endings her lips.
She began breathing heavily. After a few more steps, sheer exhaustion forced Jennifer to lay down and fall into a deep slumber. She hardly made took 10 steps before she fell.
-----------------------------------------
"Holy shit! What the heck?"
Jennifer woke up startled as someone dumped a bucket of sea water on her face. Some of it went into her mouth. She spat the distasteful water on the sandy ground beside her.
Jennifer looked up at the person that eyed her from above. She couldn't make out who that was. That person, he or she, had hidden their face with a corny black mask you saw on thieves or robbers in ancient movies and wore baggy clothes. The person wore a shirt 3 sizes too large so it almost looked like a cheap dress you could buy for $3 at the flea market. It was a decayed green color and the ends were frayed. Jen tried to figure out whether it was a girl, but the bagginess of the shirt hid any possible bumps on the chest.
"Umm, who are you?", Jen looked up at the strange being that stood over her.
The person didn't answer. He-She placed a toothpick like finger over the impression of a mouth under the mask and made a silencing sound.
The person turned around and began walking into the vast green canopy of trees. Jennifer jumped off the sand and followed the person.------------------------------------------
What seemed like a forest on the outside wasn't like it on the inside. Jennifer walked into the tall, cavernous growth of trees and in the beginning, it was a like jungle- but the animals looked deformed or mutated. Jennifer spotted a parrot- or what seemed like one. Apart from the brightly colored feathers, its beak was abnormally large and when it opened it to caw, Jen was flabbergasted to see a mouthful of teeth.
Another squirrel scurried by. It's 4ft long tail whipped Jen tightly on her calf. She bent down and massaged her leg. A frog jumped beside her. It had bright red spots all over its slimy green body. Just like that, the spots turned magenta, navy blue, aquamarine, purple, and plenty of other colors.
Jen breathed heavily in awe of the place she had been transported to. The person stopped in front of an entrance to cave that was under a veil of long, rope-like vines.
The person placed her thumb in a finger scanner. Finger scanner? In the forest? The whirring of machines filled the silence and an manually operated door opened behind the curtain of vines.
The person pulled the vines to a side and Jen went inside the bizarre place.
------------------------------------------
12 Small little houses were scattered across a small little ground. They were all built in a circle, the doors facing a large, black marble sphere.
The person led Jen to a much bigger, taller and wider house- almost like a mansion. The doors automatically opened as the person stood in front of it.
As Jen walked in, a guard standing in front of the massive doors stamped something onto her arm. It burned. Jen grabbed her arm in pain and looked at it. There was a small engraving of and triangle. Inside it was a circle that had another triangle in it. So this is basically just a rip off the illuminati symbol, Jen thought sarcastically even though she was trembling inside.
"Ollie, you can leave her now. Ah, you must be Jen. Hello Jen!"
A weird man stood in the middle of the broad hallway. He waved his hand frantically at Jen like a mad man. Jen scrunched her eyes and stared at the weirdo. He had a clean shaven head and had tattoos all over his face, as though his face were a canvas. He wore normal clothes, at least what seemed 'normal' anymore.
Jen waved her hand awkwardly back at him.
"Ah, you must be wondering where you are. You, my friend, are in a place called Mantopia! Don't worry, you aren't alone, some of your friends have already made themselves at home. You had unfortunately lost your way here. Come, come here, meet Ollie, the one who escorted you here."
The guy jabbered excitedly and Ollie off her gas mask. Long locks of luscious, deep red hair travelled down until her waist. Ollie had a beautiful face, almost as though it were painted by a talented artist. She was fair and her skin was flawless. Her lips were naturally red and full. Jen gaped in awe.
"You see Jen, Ollie here is one of our social experiments. She is one of our friends who came out as perfect as she is. Unfortunately things went a teensy bit wrong and Ollie lost her voice. But forget that! Look at her! I would have never...."
The annoying dude kept ranting about something else Jennifer wasn't interested in. Social experiments? Was that girl experimented on?
Jennifer realized this man was actually messed up. She had to escape. As though the weird dude read her thoughts, he spoke in serious voice.
"If you think you can run back to your little sweet home, BORING Cape Mandy, you're wrong. You've just been branded- you can NEVER leave. Also, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Professor Tats, Tat for short, leader of this humble, little camp."
