Have you ever been kidnapped from your home, taken to a far away place, almost been killed and live to tell the story? If you haven't then you may want to hear my story. Be prepared; this story is no joke, do not take this lightly.
It was the first day of the festival to honor the god of the sun. I and my best friend went to go to the beach to play hide and seek. She was in the middle of the wet sand. I was deciding to either go to the cave or go to the edge of the jungle. I decided to go to the jungle and hide behind an old tree.
This would be a big turning point in my life.
"Aaaahhhh!!!" This was the last thing I heard my best friend Meilani say as I saw her get taken away. I wanted to cry out her name and help her. But, as I was going to come out of hiding, a tall dark haired man looked over in my direction with another man behind him.
I will never forget his face. When he turned around I could see his eyes; one was bright green and the other bright blue. His eyes were cold, no emotion that I could identify. The lack of emotion in his eyes left me there, stunned. By the time I got out of the trance it was too late. They had already ran to the boat. I did nothing to help her that day.
I ran back to the village to tell my parents what had happened.
"Mother! Father! HELP! DANGER!" I screamed as I ran to the top of the hill to get into the tribal hut. I gathered the attention of the people as I ran by.
"What is it, Isa? We are in the middle of a very important meeting!" Father said in a loud stern voice
I looked around me to see that the elders and my parents were having a confidential meeting. "I am sorry father, mother, but this is an emergency!" I said panting out of breath
Now everyone looked at me worriedly. It made me nervous.
"I and Meilani were playing hide and seek on the beach when two big men in black came behind her and took her away." I started to cry thinking of what I could have done to save her.
After the last words came out of my mouth they started to run to the beach getting all of the villages attention as the ran down the hill. They came back with nothing and I kept on crying. We had known each other since we were babies. We were like sisters, sharing everything we had. If we could only choose one word to define us it would be inseparable.
Search parties were made and they all went to look around the island to hopefully find the people who have taken her, but no such thing was ever brought back.
~years later~
It has been 6 years since Meilani was abducted. Ever since then, I am being told to marry the eldest son of the tribes of the channel islands. There have been more cases of children on the island being taken. Some of these cases are very special to me, there was small little Aisi who was taken from the cave when the other kids weren't looking at the age of six, there was Afu who is the same age as me if he is still alive, he was taken from us when he was fishing with his best friend Kaliko by the ocean, just to name a few. We have taken precaution and made a curfew. No kid should be out of sight and if they want to go to the beach they go in partners. We have taught children to fight for themselves. This has helped reduce the number of kidnapped children, but there have still been an awful lot of abductions. At this moment my parents are in a meeting with Ada's parents who have come to become trade partners with our tribe.
"Hey Isa, do you want to go down by the ocean to get sea shells?" Ada asked with a smug look on her face.
"Sure! But let me ask my parents first Ada," I shouted to her while running up the hill.
I poked my head into the hut to see my parents talking to Ada's parents who came from another Island from off the coast of Spain. They were in the middle of talking about trading with each other.
"Father, may I go to the beach with Ada to gather some sea shells?"
"You may, but please be careful and be always on your feet," Father said in a serious and worried tone.
I left to go and find Ada to go to the beach. I started to search through the village to find her. An hour later I found her with Auntie Ecko.
"Hello Auntie Ecko," I greeted her, "How are you doing today?"
"Hello, my dear niece Isa. I 'm doing quite fine today," She said in a soft old voice.
" Um, Mrs. Ecko may I go with Isa to the beach?" Ada asked very seriously
She looked at us very worried "Sure, but be very careful down there you know what may happen."
"Yes, Auntie we will be really careful."
After that, we left to go down to the beach. It started to get dark a couple hours later.
"Hey Ada we have to go back now, my parents will worry if we are not there in less than an hour," I spoke very hastily
"NO! I want more shells, these are not pretty enough. We have to get more!" She yelled at me. She is such a spoiled child.
She is so petty. I thought to myself "But we have to go, bad thing may happen if we stay any longer."
"I said no! And you can't leave without me because then my parents would become furious and not sign the agreement." Ada spoke very sassily.
"Yes Ada" I agreed solemnly.
We stayed for a couple more hours to find more shells. We were finally leaving to go back to the village.
Suddenly I felt a hand cover my mouth. AHH, I'm being kidnapped!
"HELP" I mumbled
I bit their hand to scream out for help. I looked at Ada and screamed "HELP!"
But the expression I saw on her face was devilish. She turned her back at me, the last thing I saw on her face before I was knocked out, was her hideous grin
