Dear Diary,

After the death of my father, life did not matter. Eating was my sole desire because I no longer thought of my past, only the future that lay ahead.

On April 5, two months after my father's death, all Jews were called to gather in the Appelplatz and we all knew it was the end.

To our luck, the underground resistance had decided to save us, and at the assembly, we were told that ten blocks of inmates would be evacuated every day to never return.

The last of us were evacuated and then the resistance attacked.

As free men, we indulged ourselves in great food. Not revenge or thinking of the losses.

A few days after the liberation, I became very ill from food poisoning and spent two weeks between life and death.

After the last two years, I had not seen myself in a mirror. From deep within the mirror, a stranger stared at me curiously.

The stranger analyzed me in detail and silently contemplated me. The presence in his eyes as he glanced at me has never eluded me.
