‘…and then, he actually had the nerve to WINK at me!’ I raged on to Ariana after classes as we stood at the bustop, waiting for the familiar red bus to come racing down the street.
I was still confused and livid about Adam’s reaction to us being partnered up with him. I expected equal irritation from him but instead, he acted like he had no worry in the world!
All through my tangent of anger, Ariana listened carefully and nodded in the right places. As I finished off my speech, I looked towards her expectantly.
‘What? Oh, you want my opinion!’ Ariana said dopily.
I giggled at her foolishness. ‘Yes Ariana, I want your opinion now, you silly Bimbo!’
‘I’m not a bimbo! I’m just…well…slow. And as for my opinion, I think he likes you’, Ariana replied bluntly.
‘WHAT! What do you—I mean, that doesn’t--, No he doesn’t!’, I stuttered at her impractical opinion. I felt the familiar burning rising up my neck and onto my cheeks.
How is she even suggesting such a thing?! She knows we both hate each other and we cannot stand each other’s presence…so where on earth did she get that from?
Ariana looked sideways at my crimson face and let out a loud giggle, causing people at the bustop to turn and look at her.
‘I love making you blush! It just looks so odd with your Indian complexion. I honestly did not even know Indian people could blush that much!’ she said gleefully. I gave her a death stare at this comment.
‘Just elaborate on your earlier and ridiculous point!’ I said in reply to her.
‘So if it’s ridiculous, why do you want to know so much? Do you like him? Oh my! I never would have thought the day would come when you would actually like the enemy! This is like those Wattpad books in reality! Oh my god! You can totally write a book about your love life on—‘Ariana said, with stars in her eyes.
Ariana tended to ‘live in a dream’ as some may call it. She liked sappy romance stories and was kind of a bubbly and ditzy optimistic. Normally it would amuse me, but this time she is taking it too far.
‘Ariana! I don’t like him, okay? I never have and I never will, especially after what he did to me back then! So come back to reality please? I know you like these romance stories, but please. Not Adam. Ever. Anyone but him’ I said firmly, cutting her off. ‘By the way, don’t think I have forgotten about your point! So, elaborate’, I said complacently,
Ariana pouted and began to reply, when the bus came hurtling out of the corner.
I mentally groaned. Well, I guess I will have to ask her later. Better start pushing through the crowd now, I thought.
As soon as the bus came to a halt at the bus, the odd number of around 10 to 15 people that were standing with us at the stop rushed to get into the already full bus. I was used to this kind of crowd every day, due to taking the bus since day one as I am not legally able to drive until I am 17. Life sucks, I thought as I finally got onto the bus and tapped my oyster card onto the reader.
I looked around for Ariana, desperate for more information on what she was talking about, but could not see her anywhere in sight. I sighed. Guess I will have to ask when we get off.
****
‘So…...’ I said to Ariana, gesturing my hand which told her to delve into her explanation.
We managed to wrestle our way of the bus and found each other in the muddle of people who were impatiently waiting to get onto the bus we just vacated. People hit me and shoved as I tried as hard as could with my short height to get through to Ariana.
