FLASHBACK

Thesis, 8 years old

*******

The boy lingering in the back of his group snickering at his acquaintance's bickering. He was by far the most handsome, even for such a young age.

"Have thy heard thee tales of the ships a sailing the coast?" The boy with messy brown hair crowed with joy, brown leather shoes crunching on the small rock beach on the edge of the shoreline of the sea, eagerly drawing closer to the grey shoreline. The girl behind him, at one year less than Thesis himself, took up a steady stride, her black locks tied in a braid, bouncing to and fro.

"James!" Thea exclaimed in her British accent. "James! Please may you tell us the story?"

"Yes, James may you tell us the story?" The youngest girl whined. Her nose was pink with a splatter or freckles and her light grey eyes where wide, chin length bouncing corkscrew curls framed her face in excitement.

"Very well Lucy." Clarissa helped Lucy to the shore.

"My, 'tis a beauty, the sea is." Sophie Ann threw her blowing bronze hair into the wind, both hair and dress fluttering in the sea breeze. Thesis blinked, turning his gaze to Jaxen, who sat on the ground, drawing a sentence in English cursive.

"May I question what thy art writing?" Thesis peered at the seven year old.

"I only believe that it would be joyous to swim in the waters." Jaxen sighed dreamily. Instantly, Thesis felt unsteady. He started to unbutton the brass rings on his overcoat. It would be an excellent afternoon for a swim...

"Thesis!" Jaxen's panicked voice pulled him out of his vision.

"What?" Thesis whispered.

"Remember that words have power." Jaxen said, his dark brown eyes widening, revealing gold and green specks. Thesis quickly re buttoned his coat. He wondered if Jaxen was... Similar to him. No.

"And there are pirates!" James exclaimed, continuing to narrate emotionally to Lucy, Clarissa, Sophie Anne, Talia and Thea.

"Pirates!" Sophie Anne leaned toward James. "That appears illogical. No intelligent scavenger would approach the land of The English Empire!"

"Oh but dear Sophie Anne!" James said in awe, drawing their attention once more. "But this ship..... It has guns! And cannons far more majestic than the empire of England!"

"And all the ships fear her!" James continued, enjoying the show of terror he was producing. "And they snatch up anyone or anything as hostage for loot! And there it is!" He motioned at a nearby transporting ship. Thea rolled her eyes at him at him, understanding that this was meant as a joke, but Lucy shrieked, covering her mouth.

Lucy pushed her hands forward, as of trying to push the ship away and....

WHOOOOSH

A wall of water encompassed the ship. Over ten meters in altitude, the wave splashed on deck, roaring, sending cargo and crew overboard.

Then it stopped. Lucy stood, paralyzed.

"Thy are a witch!" James gasped, horrified.

"No!" Lucy whimpered. "I am not!"

"None of thy have any right to brand Lucy as a witch!" Talia stood bravely, for she was one of seven years, in front of Lucy. Her wavy brown hair billowed in the wind, and her eyes pierced everyone. Then, she turned to Thesis.

He closed his eyes. All was black, and then a golden flash- Talia appeared.

"Use thy ability!" Talia spoke. Except she didn't, she spoke in his mind, mentally. Her brilliant blue eyes scanned his mind, his powers. Talia and him were quite close, and he had transferred part of his mind reading abilities to her, so that she could only telepathically communicate with him.

"Very well." He sighed.

"Spare me!" She cried, fading. "You know I am the same as you, I must remember." And she was, as he was, strange. Because in the holographic image, it was his only time to see her true form. Her true form, two meters of light grey speckled with black fluffy wings on her back. The reason she knew the truth. Talia disappeared in a dash of gold.

He squeezed his eyes tighter, visions of scared and confused thoughts, and suddenly he opened his eyes. And they walked back to Kensington Gardens normally, waiting for their nannies. Because now no one except Thesis and Talia knew about Lucy's power.

Thesis had erased their memory.
