After driving five minutes to the public park, Mason and I are laughing so hard we can’t even speak.  We went through two different explicit hardcore rap songs, and at a red light during an especially dirty part in the song (‘Got my other bitch fucking with my other bitch’) a tiny old lady pulled up next to us in a tan chevy minivan.  She looked over at Mason, who was in the passenger side, and shook her head.  He bared his teeth, like I told him but then he flips her the bird.  When the green light appears, I slammed on the gas pedal, and we sped away, laughing so hard we could barely breathe.

When I pull into the parking lot, Mason tells me he’s going to get a ride from his friend Toby. I tell him okay, and that he better be home by eight o’clock. He nods, the runs to the field.

I pull out of the parking lot, eager to get back to the Ghallager’s house to maybe take a nap.

When I arrive back at the house, I barge in the door to see three boys on the white leather couches.  One is Payton, but the other two I don’t recognise.  When they hear the door glide close, one turns.  He looks like Payton, but slightly older and more sophisticated.

“Victor?” I ask, taking a guess.

He smirks, and nods his head.

“Autumn. Your babysitter.” I giggle flirtatiously, knowing Payton is listening.

Then the other head turns around. I see big green eyes framed by black lashes.  Full, red lips with an adorable butt-chin.

I make a choking sound in the back of my throat,  but finally manage to squeeze out, “Todd?”

His eyes go wide and he leaps up, but then stops himself and stands awkwardly.

He looks at his shoes, “Autumn. What are you doing here?”

“I’m babysitting.” I say, making sure to keep my voice confident and steely in front of my ex.

“Oh.” A pregnant silence fills the air, and remains until I walk up the stairs and into Victor and Payton’s room.

I run my hands through my blond hair, taking deep breaths, and lean against the wall.

The door cracks open, and I see Victor’s face.

“What do you need, Victor?”

“I just wanted to know if you were okay.”

“I’m fine, just leave, please.”

“Okay.”

The door closes and I cover my face with my hands.

A sliver of light pierces the room, and I say sharply, “Victor, I mean it. Leave.”

Then, familiar hands are wrapping around me.  They spin me, so that I’m looking into the green eyes of my former love.

“Listen, Autumn.  I was wrong to leave you. I realized that after you had gone, and you changed your number.  I want you back, Autumn.”

I start to shake my head no, but then his lips are pressed against mine.  Lips that are so familiar, lips that have kissed me so many times, that I can’t help but kiss back.  It feels good to be the same.

When Todd’s hand creeps down towards my ass, like it has done so many times, I don’t protest.  When he lifts my legs around his waist and hoists me up, It’s almost like second nature.  Todd turns me towards the door, and begins to lift my shirt over my head.  That’s when the door bangs open.  The room in enveloped in light and the bringer of that light says, “Shit, sorry.” But he doesn’t sound sorry. He sounds angry.  The door closes again and Todd tries to resume kissing me, but I have realized my mistake. I had almost given in again, given into a boy who has hurt me.

I place my hands on his chest and push, gentle but firmly, away from me.

“Todd. This isn’t right. I don’t trust you anymore, and never will again. You lost me.”

Then I race out the door and lock myself in a bathroom at the end of the hall and cry.
