This is going to sound cheesy and cliche and a tad overused, but have you ever been so in love, it hurt to breathe? I mean actually in love. To where no matter whatever you did, everything would always come back to this one person? This...feeling. This...thing that is inside of you? Love. That emotion that you just can't get over. The thing that causes you to do very strange, very mysterious things, that sometimes lead you astray in the world, off the course of a very old path that was once made out for you in life.

See, I have this theory about love. It's like a rubber band. Elastic, flimsy, loose. I think it's like a small shield that wraps itself around each and every single person, like a best friend that constantly stays over inside at your house because they never want to go home because their life is just a little bit worse than yours is, or perhaps it's like the lost puppy that follows you around everywhere, I don't know. I don't know your experiences or your life.

Love can also be very bad, like say you have a serial killer. Well, he has to start somewhere, right? Maybe he lost his family or loved ones and he's all alone in the world. Psychology has shown that something like that could happen. One gets so lonely they have to inflict pain on others in order to feel better about themselves. Or, for a more realistic piece of comparison, say you have that lonely old man down the street. The one who always tells you to "get off his lawn" or "go away or he'll call the cops." He's all alone in the world. No friends. No wife. His children have probably left the nest and only visit him on holidays, if they even come then. He's lonely. His heart is broken and his shield of love or rubber band of the emotion that we call love isn't as strong as it used to be.

I'm no expert on love, really, I'm not. This is all just a theory, but honestly, it kind of makes sense, to me, and others who have heard it. Love is a shield that surrounds everyone of us, like a rubber band. Elastic and free. Ready to latch onto those who grow closer to us with each passing day. My name is Skylar  Devereux and this is my story.
