March 1 - Day One
Dearest Rose,
The minute I stepped through the automatic doors, I turned up the volume on my earphones, trying to avoid any awkwardness between myself and whoever accompanied me inside this death-trap box of metal we're accustomed to call an elevator.
You were too caught up tapping away on your phone to acknowlegde my presence. After all, you are our boss's favorite and hardworking employee.
I was too busy blocking out the constant clicking of your iPhone you were pressing onto as well as the dinging of each floor we passed to notice that you had begun to hum along with Bono's voice.
I turned to you, hearing something else other than the sound of "Beautiful Day" blasting through the small speakers plugged into my ears.
I must have spent some time looking at your face before you finally spoke.
"U2 is my favorite band," you whispered. I faintly remember being dumbfounded to hear your calm and soft voice that I forgot to think of a quick reply. "I like U2 too, Beautiful Day, amazing song," you continued, finally looking up to my face while slightly smiling.
I stood there as the elevator stopped on our floor. You walked out and I pulled myself together, following the oh-too-familiar trail to my office next to Larry, you know, the accountant, formally known as my sidekick.
Your blonde, golden hair pulled into a bun, your young face and perfectly creased blazer must have left an impression on me because today, on my bus ride home, I couldn't stop thinking about you - and I didn't know why.
I have decided that today, I would start writing you personal letters; letters in which I would send to you eventually. I don't really know why or how I managed to think of something as cheesy as writing you letters. Maybe it's because I have nothing better to do in my leisure time.
You intrigue me Rose Winters. This is day one and I can already tell that this could be the start of something new.
Signed,
Patrick
