Ash followed Giovanni out of the private viewing room and the arena, into the plaza, and then towards the street. Ash then saw a black van pull up in front of them. Ash got into the back of the black armored van as instructed, while Giovanni got into the front. After Ash was buckled in, some men in dark suits and sunglasses got in with him and slid the side door shut.

After driving for quite some time, they finally pulled onto what appeared to be a privately-owned airstrip. As they pulled into the open hangar, ash saw a huge black private jet with the Team Rocket logo on the side door.

After they had parked inside, Ash and Giovanni got out of the main vehicle in what Ash now saw was in fact a caravan of armored vans that was escorting his and his father's van.

Why is he taking such precautions to keep me safe? Ash thought to himself. I mean, I understand that he's my father and legal guardian; but why all this?

Giovanni walked over to Ash, whom was lost in thought, and put a hand on Ash's shoulder, snapping him out of his reverie.

"Are you ready to go home?" Giovanni asked Ash.

"Oh, yeah." Ash said, still partly lost in his thoughts, "sounds great..."

"Is there something on your mind?" Giovanni asked, "If there is, Ash, you can tell me. You do know that, don't you?"

"Well," Ash said, "there is one thing that's been bothering me: why are you taking so many precautions?"

"What do you mean?" Giovanni asked.

"I mean... why did you want me to come to you alone?" Ash asked, "And why did we have to come to a private hangar in the middle of nowhere with an entire caravan escorting us?"

"Well," Giovanni said, "here's a reponse to answer all of these questions of yours: You're my only remaining son, therefore you are the rightful heir to take over as boss of Team Rocket if and when something happens to me."

"So," Ash asked, "why are we here?"

"Hello, Giovanni." a female voice said from behind them, "Good to see you again."

"Hello, mother." Giovanni said in response as he turned around to face the woman.

"And this must be Ash!" Giovanni's mother said, her facial expression tone of voice becoming more joyful as she walked towards Ash.

"Um...Yes?" Ash said, confused, "but...who are you?"

"I'm your grandmother, of course." the woman said, embracing Ash, "and...I have a gift for you."

As Ash's grandmother said that, a strangely-colored Pokémon walked out of the shadows and towards Ash.

"Is that...?" Ash said as he tried to form a full question. He couldn't find the words to finish the question, though, because he was too busy trying to figure out why his grandmother, whom he can't remember meeting before now, would bring him a Pokémon like this one.

"Yes, this is a shiny Luxray." Ash's grandmother said, "but not just any shiny Luxray, either. It's your shiny Luxray. That is...if you want it."

"Of course I want it!" Ash said. "How strong is it?"

"Strong enough to take out the champion of any region in a single blow." Ash's grandmother said, "and if you take good care of it, you could be not only the youngest Team Rocket executive, but the strongest too."

"Okay." Ash said, "I'll take good care of it. And for the glory of Team Rocket, I will become the strongest Team Rocket executive ever!"

"And who knows, Ash," Giovanni said, "if all goes well, someday you may even surpass my power and skill if and when you do take over for me as Team Rocket's Boss."

Ash smirked and said, "Yes. One day everyone will come to know and fear the all-powerful Team Rocket and their future leader, Ash Ketchum."
