Dont get caught.
I step out into the gardens and climb a tree to get a good vantage point. My heart thumping at an almost inhuman pace. I glance down at my watch and see its 11:39. I use the rest of my time to get comfortable. After a few minutes I hear distant footsteps and a shadow clad figure steps out into the clearing. His back was facing me but i could tell he was tall and lean in a black training uniform with a cuff on like the one i was wearing. He stands idle occasionally switching from foot to foot. I hear more footsteps approaching from the path i took. I recognize Paul immediately. "What do you need me to do" the tall figure asks
Paul chuckles darkly "you were always one to get straight the point." He rubs his hands together for a while. "I need you to kill the queen"
The tall figure freezes "No" he says simply he goes around Paul to leave. "It would be shame if something happens to the adorable sister of yours" the figure turns back around quickly facing Paul and i finally could see his face.
He was handsome is a roguish way with his hair sticking out haphazardly and he had an angular yet some how soft looking face with a scar going through his left eyebrow.
"My sister stays out of this"he says breaking my trance Paul laughs out loud at this "if there is anything you should know about me is a i dont follow rules,you do what I say and your sister lives otherwise...well you know"
He makes a choking noise holding his neck. The guy doesnt break composure at all looking unamused.Paul must've gotten the memo and ends the noise "you know what to do" is all he says and walks away.
The man stares at the spot Paul was standing in. Clenching and unclenching his hands. "You can come out now" he says i shiver a little but dont move "i know your in the tree" i slowly get up and navigate down the tree.
"What are you gonna do" I ask
Cautiously "I-" he lets out a frustrated grunt "i dont know" he says it like he was throwing in the towel.
"This whole plan is set up for failure"
He looks bleakly at me "you think i dont know that." He shakes his head "i have to do it, he'll kill my sister if i dont" he says the last part quietly. i fold my bottom lip into my mouth "maybe i can hide her" i say. "I can take her to my friends house,its in the 7th province and I'm sure Paul isn't to quick to go there."
He contemplates my offer and sighs
"It will have to do,but wont he just direct the threat to me then"
"Thats the problem if i hide you both he will just hunt you down and force you to do it"
"Maybe...if we can somehow expose his plans to the queen."
"I can follow him inside the castle and tell you the happenings."
He shakes his head "you will eventually get caught maybe if i could somehow get a job or become an elite in the castle....
Then it dawned on me " you can be our new trainer since the last on got "killed" " i said doing air quote around killed
He smiles. "Thank you..."
"Raina"
"Thank you Raina,if there was a way i could repay you.
"Tell me your name"
He scrunches is eyebrows together
"Christian"
" Well Christian" i say smiling at him mischievously "I'll let you know if i think of anything"
"Why do i feel like I'm going to regret this"
"you will" i say walking away so i could hide my smile.
