One year agoI sit on the bleachers, it's lunch. I look around at all the silly teen romances. They all think they have a shot at love, at being each other's everything forever. The sky is the only constant in life, but clouds change all the time. As I look inside the cafeteria window, I see a new kid, sitting on his own, he sure is hot, he looks like he will be shallow and popular like the rest of the good looking people in this town. He sees me looking at him and smiles and waves, I cease eye contact, not wanting a conversation.
He walks into English class later that day, I look around in panic and realize the only free seat is beside me. I made it my life's mission years ago to never engage in conversation with somebody, guess I'm going to have to throw that out the window for the stupid boy in the stupid cafeteria. As I thought Mr Jones puts him beside me, "hey gorgeous, I'm Art, short for Artemis but never call me that", "ok Artemis!" I reply, he seems to emit natural charm, I almost already feel comfortable around him. He is the kind of pure new boy that you almost feel sorry for, because in this school, it's pretty much bully or be bullied.
And wasn't I right too, he was never the same person again.
Now
We all charge into school, through the double doors, cramming as many people as we can through them at a time. I rush to my locker, I look over across the hall to see art locking lips with some new girlfriend that thinks she will be the one to change Art, cheeky playboy, to Artemis, loving husband and father of three. I look back to my locker and sigh, we were only friends for about two months but I told him everything about me and he broadcasted it just to be popular. He told my darkest secret to every body and never talked to me again.
I sit down in English class, as usual. Art has long since changed seats. He sits beside Hugo now, captain of the football team and second hottest guy in school, Art is first. Art has wavy brown hair and steely grey eyes, his skin is slightly tanned and he has the body of a Greek god. Hugo is fair and blond with brown eyes and an amazing body too, they both have easily three girlfriends a month.
The girl who sits beside me is Bella, I make light conversation with her but never anything like the friendship I had with Art, I learnt from my mistakes with that anyway. Who knew you could get popular by sharing the losers secret. She is always kind, and your classic peppy dumb cheerleader. I'm your classic loser C student, she's the popular A student. I sigh and realize through my thoughts every one had already left class, with just Art holding the the door, "coming gorgeous?" He asks with a smirk and I rush out of there, good memories flooding my mind as I try to block them out. He grabs my wrist as I leave, "I'll make it up to you someday Am" he whispers and I stare at him for a minute, getting lost in his intense glare, I shake my head, and run down the hall, he could never make it up to me, not after what he did to me.
