The raven haired girl ran through the forest, her three companions running alongside her. What they were running from? A beast so horrible, that even the bravest wouldn't want to face it. They ran and ran, but it kept up, never stopping.

The ravenette had unnaturally green eyes and pale skin, nearly the color of snow, her name was Lucy. The first of her companions, a brunette with brown eyes and tan skin kept at the back, making sure no one was left behind - her being named Athena, after the Greek goddess. The second one had black/brown hair and grey eyes with dark skin - Katrina - occasionally tripped over a tree root, but was helped up by the third companion - Elise. This one had russet colored hair with matching rusty-brown eyes and tanned skin.

Lucy tripped, twisting her ankle and crying out in pain. The other three stopped to try and help, but it was already too late - it was upon them.

Huge, empty red eyes glared at the girls; a growl escaped it's foaming, fanged mouth; matted, black fur bristled; claws like knives anxiously kneaded the ground. It lunged, trying to rip the children apart.

Keyword: try.

A cloaked figure jumped in front of it, impaling the beast with a longsword. It fell to the dirt, dead.

"Are you girls alright?" The figure asked, a female voice coming from under the cloak.

"Lucy's hurt, I think her ankle is broken." Elise told the woman, pointing at her friend. The woman pulled down her hood, revealing short, silver hair and startling purple eyes.

"I can help her back at my house." The purple eyed woman said, picking Lucy up. The other three stood and followed the woman.

"My name is Kara by the way, what's yours?" Kara asked.

"I'm Elise, and you know Lucy already." The ginger replied.

"My name is Katrina." The brunette replied.

"Athena." The tanned girl grunted.

Kara smiled, and continued walking through the forest.

The four girls watched in horror as their guardian Kara was impaled in front of them. The dark haired man looked over at the young girls, grey eyes gleaming.

"You're next, girlies." He cooed, a sly grin on his face. Lucy, the eldest at fourteen, stood in front of her sisters.

"Oh, you're gonna try and protect your little friends, are you?" The man asked. Lucy glared at him, her eyes glowing a toxic green. He ran at Lucy, her sisters yelling at her to get out of the way.

Just as the man nearly ran her through she grabbed his wrist and shoved him to the side, he tumbled, before impaling himself on his blade. Lucy stood, shocked, before she started to cry.

Soon, all four girls were crying, slowly making their way to Kara, who lay still.

"K-Kara?" Elise called, shaking the woman. Purple eyes fluttered open, a small smile on her pale face.

"G-Girls... know... that-that I love you all very much..." Kara whispered. "Elise... keep being... cheerful... keep the girls happy..." Kara let out a cough, blood dripping from her chin.

"A-Athena... be brave... and strong... fight for your sisters... Kat... I know your... clumsy and... silly... but don't worry... your siblings will... a-always be there... for you..." more coughs racked the twenty year olds body. "Lucy... protect your sisters... keep... them out... of trouble... f-for me..."

Lucy cried harder, "B-But Kara, wh-what about you? Y-you are gonna... make it, right?" Kara shook her head.

"No... it's my time now... but I'll always... be here... with you..." Kara reached her hand up to Lucy's forehead, smearing blood on the girl. "Here... and... Here..." Kara's hand fell to the girls chest, before going limp.

"K-Kara?"

"Kara!"

"Kara?!"

"KARA!"

And that day, was the day that the girls made vows. Lucy promised never to cry again, to stay calm even in the nastiest of situations.

Athena promised to always protect her siblings No. Matter. What.

Elise promised even on the days she'd cry herself to sleep, she'd keep a cheerful mask on, even if it killed her.

And Katrina promised she'd never leave her siblings, even if it was the last thing she did.
