The First Step (Appointment)

They pull up to the building and Veronica puts her hand on her stomach and looks down. She feels Chris' hand on hers and looks over at him. "It's all going to be ok. I will be right there with you the whole time, ok?" He says assuringly. Chris gets out of the car and crosses over and opens Veronica's door for her. As she steps out of the car he intertwines his fingers with hers. She looks up towards Chris and then looks towards the building. "Lets go." Veronica says stating she is ready. Chris nods and they walk up to the building together. As they walk in Veronica grabs the hem of her jacket and hold it tightly. "Hey, it's ok. Im here with you through all of this, no matter what." Chris kisses her head and goes and sits down in the lobby. "Name?" Says the receptionist. She looks up at Veronica who is in a transe. "Mame?" The receptionist says looking up at Veronica confused. "Huh?" Veronica says snapping out of her transe looking down at the receptionist. "Name...your name?" The receptionist repeats. "Oh..Veronica...Veronica James." She says nervously. "Ok Miss James, if you will sit in the lobby the nurse will be with you momentarily." The receptionist says pointing to the lobby with a smile on her face. "Ok...Thank you." Veronica says smiling back. Veronica walks towards Chris in the lobby. "Hey cutie." He says patting his hand on the seat next to him, telling Veronica to sit next to him. "Hey." She says quietly. Veronica looks around the lobby seeing pictures of babies smiling, and pregnant mothers that are happy. "Veronica James." The nurse says standing at the door. Veronica and Chris both look up at the nurse. "Yes." Chris says raising his hand to signal the couple was there. "Right this way please?" The nurse said pointing at the hall way. "If you will step on the scale please?" She says pointing at the scale. The nurse looks at the scale and writes everything down. "125.3 pounds. OK. Thank you! Follow me please?"  The nurse says guiding the couple into a room. "Room 115, Veronica will you please sit on the table please?" She says preparing to examine Veronica. Veronica nods and climbs onto the table. "So what brings you here today Veronica?" The nurse asks while putting on her gloves. "Im pretty sure i am pregnant." Veronica says quietly. "Ok sweetheart, im going to get your heart rate, blood pressure, and ask you some questions ok? We are going to get you good to go so you with have a healthy baby ok?" She says in a very nice tone. "Ok thank you." Veronica says quietly. "You're welcome sweetheart. Everything is as it should be. Thats good." she says while taking notes on her clipboard. "Ok sweetheart,  I am going to ask you some personal questions. Is that ok?" she asks and looks up at Veronica. "Yes mame it is." Veronica says giving her permission. "Ok Veronica. When was your last period?" "Um...three months ago." The nurse writes down her notes and Chris looks up at Veronica. "Three months?" He asks in a shocked voice, looking at Veronica with a shocked look in his eyes. "Yes its November. My last period was in August." I say looking at Chris. "Why didn't you say something sooner." Chris asks hugging her closely. "I had to make sure it wasn't being irregular, Im sorry." "Its ok baby." "Ok. Do you smoke?" The nurse asks looking looking at Veronica. "No mame." Veronica answers honestly "Do you drink?" "No mame." "Are you allergic to anything?" "No mame." The nurse takes all this information and writes it all down. "Ok sweetheart, Have you ever been pregnant?" "No mame." "Ok, how old are you honey?" Veronica stays quiet for a few moments. The nurse and Chris look up at her...She looks ashamed. Chris takes her hand. "I'm 19." She says quietly. The nurse looks up at Veronica with sad eyes. "Oh sweetheart....ok...um...Do you have an OBGYN?" She looks at Veronica concerned. Veronica nods her head no. "Ok, well I'm going to go get you a list of our OBGYN's that are on shift and you can pick one out ok? This doctor is going to make sure that you have a healthy baby, and that you are healthy during this pregnancy ok? So I'll be right back." She says as she gathers her stuff and walks out of the room. Chris and Veronica sit in the room patiently and quietly. The nurse comes back in and hands the couple a file, then walks out. Veronica opens the file and in it is a list of OBGYN's and their picture and a small description of them. After looking through the file and thinking about it, they decided on one. "Have you decided on someone?" The nurse asks gently. "Yes mame. We want Shannon Michelle." Veronica says with a smile on her face. "Ok. She is a good one. Let me to get her and she will take care of you from there." The nurse says very oh for and walks out of the room. A few moments later Shannon walks in and looks at my file, then looks up at us with a sweet face. "Hey guys, my name is Shannon Michelle. I will be your OBGYN. Wow. Ok. I see you are going and this is your first pregnancy. Chris? How old are you?" Chris looks up at her. "I'm 21 mame." Shannon looks down at the file. "Ok? Chris are you the dad of the baby?" She asks looking up. "Yes mame." Chris says smiling at veronica. "Ok sweetheart, let's get you set up for an ultrasound so we can see how far along you are. Sound good?" "Yes mame" "Ok, so lay down and pull your shirt up for me." Shannon says as she gets everything ready for the ultrasound. "Ok sweetheart, I'm going to put this gel in your stomach, it's going to be really cold ok?" Veronica nods and gasps as the cold gel makes contact with her warm stomach. "Ok Veronica, this is your baby. You are...wow...um...4 months along." Veronica looks at Shannon shocked. Chris then looks at Veronica surprised.  "4 months?" Veronica asks concerned. Shannon looks up and sees the concern in Veronicas eyes. "Yes mame, but it's ok, your baby is perfectly healthy." Shannon says reassuring the young couple. "Ok, good." They sighed in relief. "You know you can know the gender of you want." Shannon says looking between veronica and Chris. Veronica looks at Chris and they both say yes. "Ok, your baby is a....
