Doctor's POV
I looked at Melody. She was fast asleep on the couch, curled up in a ball, her hair covering her face. I had to wake her up; I didn't want to, she looked so peacful, but we had landed, and I couldn't leave her. So I gently shook her awake. "Melody. Wake up. We've landed." She mumbled something in her sleep and curled up tighter. "Melody," I shook her a little harder. "Come on, Melody. Wake up. Seriously." After much more shaking and more pursuasion, she finally opened her eyes, yawned, streched, and rubbed her eyes. "Meh," she muttered. "I'm tired."
I sighed. "Melody, I know, but we've landed, and I'm not sure it's safe to leave you in the TARDIS," I said. She sat up and yawned and streched some more. "Oh, alright," Melody said. She got up, still rubbing her eyes, and followed me out of the TARDIS. I shut the door after her and locked it. She looked around. "Where are we?" she asked.
"We are on New Earth, over 5 billion years in the future," I said.
"Wow," she looked at me. Where tiredness was before, there was glee and interest. This stuff always fasinated her, along with science, seeing futuristic stuff and foreign planets and futuristic foreign planets. Rockets flew over head. Melody watched them. I took her hand and pointed to the huge city in front of her. "Melody, that city in front of you-" I pointed at the city-"That city is called New London,"
It didn't take her long for her to figure out that every thing on New Earth started with "new"
"Makes sense to me," Melody shrugged. She looked at me, then at the city. "Can we go to there?" Melody asked. I shrugged. "Sure," I said.
******
She couldn't stop twisting around, looking left to right, drinking in everything she saw. Every once in a while, she'd look at me, a wide grin on her face. She never spoke once, but I was used to that; she never did quite get over her mute stage.
Melody's POV
New Earth is amazing! I couldn't stop staring! There were humans and a weird cross between cats and humans. When I pointed this out to Dad (quietly, and once they were out of earshot) he said, "I don't know much about them except that they don't mind living here with humans," Other than that, I didn't speak. I was too fascinated. I couldn't believe that Dad had been here before. After a while, Dad looked down at me. "What do you think of New Earth?"
My only reply was: "I couldn't be in a more fascinating place."
Dad smiled. "I knew you'd like it,"
I noticed something strange. We were in a alleyway, and there were booths that were selling feelings! I asked Dad, "How can you sell feelings? That would be hard, wouldn't it?" But he just shook his head, so I just shrugged.
One of the people selling them called out, "I've got happiness! Nice fresh happiness! Happiness for sell!" She spotted us. "Would you like to buy some happiness for your little girl, sweetheart?" Dad grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the alley. I said to him," And now why would she think I'd need happiness?" Dad replied, "Its just business. Trying to get customers, that's all,"
"Right," I slowly said. Somehow, seeing those people selling feeling patches really creeped me out. I stuffed my hands into my pockets and tried to get interested again, but my heart wasn't in it.
Especially when two people came up to me and snatched me from behind.
