I dragged my feet up to the door. I glanced up at the sign. Dandelion's Café. This was supposed to be a first job, not a life time job. I been working here since the age of 19. The hours were long and the pay was shit. Not to mention the boss. Frederick VanLeewen. A naive man with an idiotic French accent. He always gives me the night shift. I think Frederick is trying to make a move on me. He was - not so subtly - trying to get me to sleep with him. AS IF! Once, when the cafe got quiet, he came up to me and wrapped his arms around my hips. I gave me a broken nose. I have asked him for earlier shifts, but he said no. I guess I can't do anything about it. But he IS scared of me after the nose breaking episode.

The whole café was overly happily, with dandelions decorated everywhere. I mean, I have nothing against being happy. But the dandelions? They're just pointless. At least I convinced Frederick to give me an hour break instead of 15 minutes. Well, I guess you couldn't really say convinced, I more scared it out of him. I was surprised when my phone rang during my break. I was even more surprised when I saw who was ringing me – Bridgette. She was one of my best friends from school. I hadn't spoken to her for about 10 years. We kind of just separated. I picked it up,

"Hey Bridge! How are you I haven't talked to you in..." Bridge cut me off.

"Gwen, I have cancer. I am gonna die in 6 months." I was shocked. We started crying. It couldn't be true. How could I lose my best friend, when we are only 30? It couldn't be true. Could it?

As I was walking home just part midnight, I couldn't even think. I was blank. A loud gunshot pierced air. I ducked behind an industrial steel bin. I could barely see, but I could make out two silhouettes, one was familiar. It was Seth O'Neill. That creep from high school. The other man, who was short and stout, pulled something out of his jacket as Seth was waving his hands in surrender. It was a gun! I closed my eyes and covered my ears, but it didn't work. Another loud gunshot penetrated my hands.

I covered my mouth, attempting to suffocate my breathing. When I looked up, another man emerged from a nearby car. He looked like he had a knife. He was tall and lean. He walked over to Mr Dwarf. Mr Dwarf was obviously the boss as he pushed Mr Basketball Player. Mr Basketball Player chucked Seth over his shoulder as Mr Dwarf held open a body bag. They chucked Seth in and threw the bag into the boot of the car. When the doors slammed and the tires squealed I knew I was in the clear to move. I crept up and sneaked all the home.

What a HORRIFYING day in the world of Gwen Hutchinson! First, I find out my best friend has 6 months to live and then I witness a man get shot!
