Monsters

"No!" Mat yells as he dies for 15th time while they were playing a horror game called Sophie's Curse. Steph jumps and then giggles quietly, getting over the scare while checking out the chat.

"FailPat and ScaredyPat is all I see in the chat right now." Steph says and Mat groans. Mat sits pouting for a bit before Jason speaks up.

"Hey Mat, This'll cheer you up." Jason hits a few buttons on his keyboard and a few notes, seeming to the beginning of a song, play.

Mats eyes light up and Steph turns red. Mat turns to Steph excitedly and she buries her face in her hands.

"Matthew. NO. DON'T even THINK about it." Steph says as Mat engulfs her in a hug.

"Jason, Quick! Grab the guitar! I'll hold her h- darn it!" Mat says as Steph slips out of his grasp and runs away, Mat chasing after her.

Jason appears on screen soon after with a guitar in his hands. He sets the guitar off-screen and sits down.

"You all are probably pretty confused right now so let me explain. This happened before Mat and Steph were a couple. Mat was going through a really hard time in his life and he didn't really know what to do with himself anymore. One day Mat had invited Steph over to his dorm room to talk about a project they had together. He had a huge crush on Steph so he didn't want her to see him in pain. Steph had gone to the bathroom and when she came back Mat was sitting on his bed with his head in his hands, crying. Steph had sat down next to him and started to sing quietly. It was the first time anyone, even her parents, had ever heard her sing. A few days later they got together as a couple. Steph is still super shy and Mat is the only one that's ever heard her sing. Even I don't know what her voice sounds like. To this day it's still Mat's favorite song." Jason smiled and started to talk about the game. Then hearing something the livestream couldn't, he stood up, going off-screen. After a few seconds, from somewhere in the house whining complaints could be heard from Steph, coming closer and closer.

"Matthew! Put me down!" Steph whined she appeared on-screen, Mat carrying her. Mat sat down, setting Steph on his lap and wrapping his arms around her waist so she couldn't get up and run away. Steph huffed and pouted, refusing to look at the camera.

"Please Steph!" Mat pouted and Steph blushed. She again made an attempt to escape but failed miserably considering he just tightened his grip on her.

"Matthew!" Steph whined, "You know I don't like to sing!"

"I know, because in fact, you love to sing. So much so that you always sing when you cook! You dance around the kitchen and tell me to stop staring because it embarrasses you." Mat said in victory and Steph blushed a bright red.

"Is that why she never cooks when I stay late?!" Jason exclaimed and Mat chuckled, nodding.

"F-Fine..." Steph says quietly and Mat smiles widely. He sets Steph down on the couch beside him and grabs the guitar. Mat looks at Steph and then starts strumming. Steph closes her eyes and starts to sing.

Steph opens her eyes and lets out a shy smile. Mat sets the guitar off-screen and stares at her, seemingly caught in her beauty. Steph lets out a long sigh and then composes herself.

"Right! On from the boring stuff and back to the game!" She then proceeds to pick up her laptop, start scrolling through the chat, and acting like nothing had happened. Mat continues staring at her, star struck, for a second longer then snaps out of his trance.

"STEPH!! YOU JUST SANG IN FRONT OF 18,000 PEOPLE!!" Mat practically screeches and tackles Steph in a giant hug.

Steph pushes Mat off her and desperately attempts to take all attention off her for the rest of the stream. She fails, she completely and utterly fails. When Mat and Steph eventually ended the stream it had skyrocketed to 31,000 viewers just because of Steph singing on stream and everyone being astounded by her gorgeous voice. Steph seemed to be a little off and on edge about something after the stream though.

Stephanie's scream sounded through the house, scaring Skip off of their bed and waking a very worried Matthew. Mat bolts upright and immediately pulls his small wife close to his chest, glancing over her to make sure she wasn't hurt. Steph shakes and curls up against her husband.

"Nightmare?" He asks quietly and she simply nods. Mat brushes his fingers through Steph's hair and just embraces her silently for a bit. Steph's shaking clues Mat off to that fact that she is still awake, so he decides to try Plan B.

"I see your monsters."

Steph looks up at Mat and smiles. He cherishes the little moments like this. Just being able to hold her was enough to make him happy for an eternity.

"I see your pain."

Steph buries her head in his chest and gets comfortable. She drinks in his soft smell and smiles. She drifts back off to sleep with only one thought on her mind. I am home.
