----“Come one Nicky! You can do it! That’s it! Just push your legs back and forth with the swing!”
I turn around to get a better look at the proud smile on my daddy’s face, but as my body turns, I lose the grip on the swing. I instantly put my hands and knees out to catch my fall and scrape my knees on the rocks within the playground wall. I try my hardest to hold back my tears like mommy told me to but it hurts too badly. Just as the first tear falls, I look up and see her marching over to me. Daddy trys to stand in front of me but that only makes her angrier.
“Nicole Jane, what did I tell you about crying?” I look down at my feet to hide my tear-filled eyes, but she roughly slaps my face only making me cry harder. “Look at me when I am talking to you!”
“Now dear do you really think that is necessary?” My dad looks worried and angry but it is obvious that he is not willing to share this out loud because he knows she will only take it out on me.
“Yes! I do think this is necessary! You have always loved her more than me! Ever since the little rat was born all you do when we are together is talk about how amazing she is, or how wonderfully she is growing up, you never take my side! You will never see her like I do.”--------
And that is when it all changed.
