The Disappearance of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible

Lauria Bible was born on April 18, 1983, in Oklahoma, to parents Lorene and Ray Bible. Ashley Freeman was born six months later on December 29, 1983, in Oklahoma, to parents Kathy and Danny Freeman

Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible paths crossed when they were in kindergarten and ever since then they had been inseparable. They were so close you would have thought of them being blood sisters if it weren't for the fact that they didn't look similar. They stayed best friends even all the way up to high school even though they were doing complete opposite stuff. Ashely was into playing basketball and Lauria was into cheerleading.

On December 29 of 1999, it was Ashley's birthday (turning 16)  and they celebrated it by going to a pizza place, and then they went home and had a dinner party that evening at the Freeman place. Lauria asked her dad if she can stay the night at Ashley's, and he said yes as long as she was home the next day by noon. Ashley's boyfriend, Jeremy Hurst, was there too but he left by 9:30 pm.

The next day on December 30, Lauria's parents got worried because she hadn't returned by noon. Early that morning around 5:30 am a neighbor of the Freeman's reported to authorities about the Freeman trailer being on fire. Though the firefighters tried their best to put the trailer out fast, their efforts proved futile because the trailer was burned quickly and was eventually reduced to nothing but ashes. By the time Lauria's parents, Lorene and Ray, made it to the scene the fire was contained and the only thing they found there was their daughter's car parked in the driveway and it still had the keys in the ignition.

Law enforcement quickly inspected what was left to see if there was any hint of life left. Lorene got answers quickly though saying that there was only one body found in the trailer and it was Ashley's mother, Kathy. Her body was found on the floor in her room next to the bed. She was found with a bullet in the back of her head. This was determined to be the cause of her death. Authorities confirmed that this was arson and not an accidental fire. The most concerning issue at the time was that the husband Danny, Lauria, and Ashley were missing. Their first theory was that since the only body found was Kathy's, Danny was the one to shoot his wife in the head and then fled with the two girls. But this theory was thrown out the window on December 31, 1999, because Lauria's parents went back to the scene the investigate a little more and they ended up finding Danny's rottweiler sitting next to some burnt debris. When they got closer, they saw it was another body. It was then identified as Danny. He had been shot in the back of the head as well.

Finding his body made the police re-examine the crime scene. They didn't find the girl's bodies but they did find Lauria's purse which contained her driver's license and nearly $200 in cash. Finding the purse helped police rule out robbery because the cash and the cars hadn't been stolen. At this point, the police and Lorene believed that the girls had been abducted. Search efforts for the girls started on January 1st, 2000. They searched the nearby grand lake, a mine shaft near Picher, and a water-filled quarry near Chelsea, but these searches came up with nothing.

On January 1st, 2001, a memorial service was held in their honor and the search for them kept going. On June 14th of that year, a tip from a jailhouse snitch led authorities to investigate the house of a man named Paul Glover. They found a patch of blood on his carpet during the search but when it was tested, it wasn't a match the Laria or Ashley. Police then used sniffer dogs a couple of weeks later at twin bridges state park in Ottawa, but sadly they still found nothing. Another search was held in Wyandotte almost 190 miles away from Welch after bones were found. However, these bones ended up being horse bones. In 2010 after not being able to find Ashley, the Freeman family declared her dead.

Jeremy Hurst, Ashley's boyfriend wasn't a suspect because it was established he had left way before the crimes occurred. The authorities then searched for a motive for someone shooting Danny and Kathy and it wasn't hard to find one. There were a couple of theories that came to light that showed proof of this. Danny had told his brother Dwayne months before that, "If anything happens to me, look at the sheriff's department." They had a long-standing riff with them because of the death of Danny's son Shane. he was shot and killed by a deputy after he was caught stealing a truck and a neighbor's gun. A ruling found the shooting justifiable, but the Freemans had threatened to file a wrongful lawsuit against the department. This resulted in the deputy's intimidation of Danny and his family. Polygraph tests were taken from the people involved in this at the sheriff's department and a conclusion was made that they had nothing to do with the deaths and didn't know the location of the girls. Following the deaths of the Freeman's the sheriff's department voluntarily handed the case over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
