I drew an eye and then I decided to watercolour it red like Josh's eye makeup.
In the same way that Tyler's black paint on his hands and neck represent his insecurities, I believe that Josh's eye makeup represents his insecurities/anxiety.
I've always had this thought that his eye makeup was a metaphor for how after crying, your eyes would turn red and puffy.
I think that as Josh paints his eyes red, he's saying in a way that no one really sees him insecure or sad or scared, but it's definitely there. You can only see small traces of it because he hides it so well.
