Liam's P.O.V

"You've got to be kidding me." The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them.

The sheriff  shuffled his papers and used his left hand to put them on the side of his table, I could see by the way he was walking around his office that he wasn't surprised with my answer, he was in his mid forties but looked much younger, although his whole head was white as snow, I guess that's what happens when you become responsible for a whole town.

"You've heard of the maskers ?" He asked, sitting on his chair, staring at me directly.

"Yes sir, everybody on this unit including myself has tried to get those freaks in Gas Masks of our streets."

"Well then you know they are a problem for this city, you know that the crime has been getting steadily worse each year. In part due to Maskers Gang, who are ruthless and cunning, and in part because of a young man who goes by the name Sting who's a highly effective nephew of drug lord Antonio Carson who has been in prison for twenty years today, I think that he is  on the mantle of his family upon his his uncle and is taking revenge on the people who put him in prison."

"Sir if you know who the person behind the gang is why don't we just take him in or put his photo on the news so people can stay away or better yet why don't we just shoot him, whatever it costs-"

"Because you idiot, you don't just go around shooting civilians. That's why your ass is going undercover tonight."

"Because I'm an idiot ?"

He slams his hand on the desk, making me take a step back. He begins to laugh as if I told him a joke. I awkwardly laugh along with him, he stops and glares at me.

"Your mission starts tonight, The Maskers are going to be at a nightclub,  some rich teenager is having a party which gives them the opportunity to sell. They are In possession of a precious supply of chemicals they brew into various harmful gases. And turn them into a happy pill-"

"What about backup?"

"As soon as they get comfortable with you, you will be wearing a wire the whole time, obviously they will suspect you of being a cop, I mean look you at you."

"I'll get new clothes" I say

" just try to act as normal as you can, I need your gun and badge."

"I'm a cop, I didn't sign up for a suicide mission."  I said crossing my arms, I needed protection what if something went wrong.

"Did you just disobey a direct order?" He asked me in a voice so low it was almost a whisper. He may has well have screamed it.

The sheriff  looked me over, taking in the changes in my body language. As I placed my hands down and stared at the ground.

"Do I need to repeat that order?" He asked.

"No sir." I whispered, shaking my head, eyes still trained to the floor, I handed him both my gun and badge.

"Good, now to the locker room, chage your uniform and don't come near the station until completely necessary" He ordered, giving me a slight nudge in the direction of the door. "I will call you when necessary."

I quickly did as I was told.

"And Officer Phillips ?" He called out to me as I reached the door nob.
