The Accusation

A week passed before I even heard a whisper about the Blackmane's. There was another death at the docks not ten miles from the school last night, and rumors are going around accusing the Blackmane's of murder. So far, nobody knows how the fisherman died.

It was dark out right now, and the ear splitting sound of sirens followed by the bright, flashing lights of two police cars woke me up.

I slipped out of my bed and approached the window to see the two police cars pull into the Blackmane's driveway.

Maybe they'll arrest the Blackmane's. I thought hopefully as I watched three policemen walk up to the Blackmane's front door, despite the fact that it was a little difficult to see them from here.

Their door open after a couple of minutes, soon followed by the policemen walking inside.

I waited by my window to see if they were going to be arrested, but what I expected to happen never occured. Instead, almost ten minutes later, the three policemen came rushing out of the house; their screams were just barely audible from where I stood in confusion.

"Wait....what?" Jason said.

"Exactly," I said. "I mean, the Blackmane's are creepy, but I wouldn't say they're terrifying people."

"They have to be pretty damn scary in order to have three police officers run out of their house, screaming."

"I know," I glanced back at the desk Jasik sits at, still seeing it empty, before looking back at Jason. "Do you think he'll show up today?"

"If someone died sort of near the school hardly two days ago, and people accused you of murder, and if the police showed up at your door near the middle of the night to interrogate you, only to have them run out of your house, screaming....would you show up at school the next day?"

"I guess you're right,"

"Exactly,"

"When do you think he'll come back?"

He gave me a look. "You know, for someone who really doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with this guy, you sure seem pretty interested in him."

"What; a strange family moves into town, an innocent young woman suspiciously dies the night their son attends his first day at this school, his dad visits me after the Sun goes down on the second day and brings up my dead mom out of the blue, their kid is obsessed with the Grim Reaper and symbols of Death, another person suspiciously dies at the docks not two days ago, their family is seemingly interrogated last night, and three policemen come running and screaming out of their house not ten minutes later. Did you really think I wouldn't be intrigued by them?"

"Point taken,"

The hallway and the classroom suddenly went almost dead silent, and the sound of only a single person walking down the hall could be heard.

I turned towards the direction of the sound and found everyone in the hallway staring at someone with uneasy looks and fear in their eyes. There was only one person in this entire school that could have that effect on this many people, and that very person was walking into the classroom. A familiar icy chill ran down my spine and everyone remained silent as he took his seat at the back of the class by the window.

The bell rang, and people went back to their daily lives.

"What is he doing here?" I whispered to Jason.

"Maybe he wanted to be the center of attention,"

"I'd say he already was before last night,"
