The castle doors were sturdy and old, but a good hard kick from Siegfried's steel boot knocked them straight down. He stepped inside and took a deep breath, inhaling the monstrous energies within the rest of the castle grounds. While giving a feel of uncertainty, that wouldn’t hold this determined knight back from his goal. Siegfried continued through.
Castle Ostenberg was rather large, and although many years old, was also quite beautiful. Siegfried had explored much of the first floor, except for the dining room. As he stepped toward the door, he could hear sounds from the other side. Vicious snarling and growling, the sound of monsters. The knight gripped the hilt of his blade and proceeded into the room.
Siegfried identified the growls and snarls: Half a dozen barbaric and bloodthirsty lizard-like creatures who he recognized as kobolds, all with their dark green eyes fixed upon the castle's intruder who had just entered. They all held worn swords or spears, most likely taken from the castle's armory.
“You are not the creature I seek here,” Siegfried said coldly. “Stand in my way, and you will surely die.” The steel-clad warrior wasn’t sure if the kobolds even understood him, but the growls and hisses escaping from their throats assured Siegfried he wasn’t leaving this room without blood being shed. He unsheathed the large sword from his back and awaited one of these creatures to make a move.
A kobold lunged forward with a sword. It was quick, but Siegfried was quicker. He shifted around, dodging an old blade, and pinned the kobold to the wall with the tip of his sword straight through its stomach. His problem now was that his back faced the 5 remaining kobolds. The knight heard the other creatures moving forward. With battle-hardened reflexes, Siegfried quickly thrust upward with his blade right up the middle of the pinned kobold and brought the steel blade straight down behind him, slicing another monster in two separate pieces. Only 4 remained. They attempted to surround Siegfried, but the knight’s wit was as quick as his blade. He stepped toward a kobold on his front right and pierced it’s chest. He then flung it off of his sword and into the air behind him. With a quick flick of the wrist, he drove the large zweihänder upward towards the air, ripping through both an approaching Kobold and the airborne one. This created a rain of blood and two halves of a kobold falling around Siegfried, leaving him completely soaked. Knowing that their fate would be the same if they stayed, the other two kobolds hurried out of a near window to escape.
"I told you this would happen!” Siegfried called off to the retreating kobolds with a hint of laughter in his voice. He wouldn’t give chase to them, as he wasn’t worried about them coming back for him. Images of Amelia laying deathly sick in her bed appeared in Siegfried’s mind. He wiped his blade and dried his blood-soaked hair on old cloth laying on the nearby dining tables. It was time to continue his search.
