Barely able to breathe, Teto and her friends finally reached the home of the Vocaloids. It was a large mansion, fit for a king. Actually, scratch that. Fit for a hundred kings. It was probably so big because ALL the Vocaloids lived in there - each with their own room, bathroom and maid. Teto dreamed of relaxing in one of the rooms with a maid by her side. She was about to turn that dream to reality. A recording studio and a theatre for practicing were standing just behind the big house. Loud music was coming from the theatre, so Teto guessed the tryouts were being held there. She ran towards it, her two companions just behind her. A horrible, creaky voice was singing Hatsune Miku's 'World Is Mine' inside the theatre. Teto tried not to listen as she pushed the door open. A ginger, seven year-old girl was on the stage. A man, probably her dad, was watching her with admiration. When she finished, Miku stood up. She was behind a small desk. Kagamine Rin and Megurine Luka were also behind the desk. Miku cleared her throat and looked at the girl.
"Um...I'm sorry, Natsuki, but your singing isn't good enough to make you a Vocaloid. Well done for trying, though!" The girl, or 'Natsuki', ran off the stage in tears. She moaned and whined as her dad hugged her, muttering things like 'Don't worry, darling' and 'They're just idiots'. 'What a spoiled little girl' thought Teto as the girl and her dad walked outside. She was just about to enter when -
"Well, that was our last singer, girls. Make a decision," said Miku, turning to the two Vocaloids beside her. Luka sighed.
"They were all a bit rubbish, really," she said. Miku tried to tell her off for being 'disrespectful', but she had to agree. Rin thought hard. Out of the people that bothered to turn up, she had to choose a winner. Meanwhile, Teto watched with horror. She was too late. Neru and Haku told her to go up to them, but Teto thought it would be no use. She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes. Tears came as she thought of herself singing with Miku and Rin and Len and Luka and all the other Vocaloids.
"Let's go home," she whispered to Neru and Haku. Or so she thought. Because they were no longer there! Teto looked back at Miku, Rin and Luka. Neru and Haku were tiptoeing towards them. Haku looked back at Teto, who was shocked to see them daring to do such a thing.
"Come, Teto! You still have time! You'll regret it if you don't!" said Haku. Teto smiled. What amazing friends she had. She quickly caught up with her two buddies. Miku and Luka were arguing over 'respect' and 'disrespect' while Rin was deep in thought. Finally, after a few minutes of shouting, Miku calmed down. She decided to just choose someone.
"Well...I suppose Jessica was the least worst," she said, Rin and Luka nodding. Teto was so disgusted that she shouted, "No!", which made the three Vocaloids turn around. They spotted Teto, Neru and Haku, halfway across the theatre.
"Oh! Did you all come for the tryouts?" Miku asked. Haku smiled and looked at Teto. Neru handed the lyrics to Teto. "Actually, only Teto here has come for that. We are her friends," said Neru. Teto felt the blood rush up to her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, but you've missed the tryouts. We are deciding the winner," said Luka. Rin whispered in her ear.
"Hey, Luka! What if that Teto girl is actually an amazing singer? Then we'd have a winner who is good at singing!" she said. Luka smiled and whispered the same thing in Miku's ear. But Miku was a bit unsure.
"What if she's really bad? Then we will have wasted our time..." she said. Rin and Luka gave her dirty looks.
"Then again, I suppose we should give her a chance," Miku quickly added. They turned back to Teto and her friends. "We have decided to allow one more contestant. Teto, sing us your song," announced Rin. Teto's heart was filled with joy and relief. She rushed onto the stage as Neru and Haku looked up at her. Miku brought out a microphone for Teto. Then the three judges settled into their seats once more. Luka lifted the stereo from under the desk. It was then Teto realized she hadn't composed any music. Neru and Haku saw her worried expression. Neru felt the same, sweat dripping from her forehead. But Haku was calm and still.
"What will we do? What will we do!?" Neru whispered, her voice very shaky. But Haku was silent. She went up to Miku. "Um...do you have a grand piano anywhere?" she asked. Miku was very surprised to hear a question like that.
"Why yes, of course. Do you need it?" she inquired.
"Yes...it's for the music," she replied. Miku told Rin and Luka to bring out the grand piano from backstage.
Neru watched as Rin and Luka staggered across with a giant piano, while Haku seemed to be trying to find something in her pocket. Teto was on stage, confused about what was happening. After a few minutes, Haku found a scrunched up piece of paper. She opened it up. Teto saw music notes on it that looked like they had been drawn by hand. Then Haku sat down at the piano and placed the piece of paper in front of her. She looked at the three Vocaloids.
"Is it alright if I play this tune through once?" she questioned. Miku nodded and Haku began to play. Neru and Teto were shocked. Haku was so skilled! She played swiftly, her fingers pressing the keys so fast they became a blur. And the tune! The tune was heavenly and sweet, perfect for a song about hopes and dreams - which was what Teto was about to sing! Halfway through the tune, Teto realized why Haku was playing it. Not for practice, but so Teto could sing along to the tune correctly. She listened carefully and came up with the perfect way to sing along. When Haku had finished, Miku told Teto and Haku to start the song. So they did. Teto had mixed feelings; Happiness, Fear, Panic and Hope. She cleared her throat and began to sing.
I was a normal girl,
Searching for my talent all over the world.
I never stood out,
Nevertheless, I want to shout...I'm going to find my talent someday,
And I'll be who I want to be!
Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!And so I was employed,
To do something I very much enjoyed.
I don't know if I was any good at it,
But one day I hope I'll be a big hit!I'm going to find my talent someday,
And I'll be who I want to be!
Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!I really love to sing,
I will sing everything!
I want to join my inspiration,
A group of singers that have a reputation!I'm going to find my talent someday,
And I'll be who I want to be!
Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!Now I'm here,
My singing is sincere.
I hope you take me in,
If you don't, it's not a sin.I'm going to find my talent someday,
And I'll be who I want to be!
Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!I might go home today,
With sadness and dismay.
But I know It'll be okay,
Because I'll find my fortune anyway.I'm going to find my talent someday,
And I'll be who I want to be!
Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!Nothing in this universe will bring me down,
You just wait and see!Haku played the final couple of notes, and Teto sang the last few words. Then it was over. It was all finished. Miku began to clap. So did Rin. Luka did, too. And soon enough, Neru clapped as well. Haku joined in too. Teto was standing still on the stage, her heart filled with happiness. Tears of joy rolled down her face as she looked at everyone around her. When the clapping died down, Miku stood up. She looked at Teto with a smiling face.
"Well, Teto! You blew our minds. You are definitely the winner - welcome to the Vocaloids!" she exclaimed. At first, Teto was having the most joyful moment in her whole entire life. She danced around the theatre, feeling over the moon. But then she looked at her friends. The two girls who let this happen in the first place. The two girls who gave her the music and the lyrics, as well as the encouragement. Teto stopped and looked at Neru and Haku, who had sad smiles on their faces.
"Congrats, Teto! I guess this is goodbye, then," said Neru.
"We'll miss you a lot. Please don't forget about us," Haku continued. Teto started to cry again. But these weren't tears of joy. She ran up to the Vocaloid judges and fell to her knees. Rin, Miku and Luka looked down at her with confusion.
"Please, Vocaloids. Allow my friends to join the group too. I couldn't have done this without them at all. Neru wrote the lyrics with me. I told her about my hopes and dreams, and she put it into a song. Haku did the music for me. I told her I was going to try to become a Vocaloid and she composed it out of kindness. And both of them gave me encouragement. I would have gone home believing I wouldn't get a chance. But they gave me confidence and strength. They made me stay. They deserve more than what they have. Please, let them be alongside me. Let them be Vocaloids too," begged Teto, staring up at Miku with wide eyes. The three judges looked at each other. They grinned and looked at Neru and Haku.
"Congratulations, Neru and Haku! Neru, you get to be the official Vocaloid lyrics writer. And Haku, you get to be the official Vocaloid music composer. Welcome to the Vocaloids!" announced Rin. Two big smiles appeared on Neru and Haku's faces. Teto felt much the same. The three new Vocaloids ran to the middle of the theatre and hugged, all crying with joy. Then they looked up and said at the same time, "We've found our talents!".The End
