Today is Saturday. Today is the day I have been dreading for weeks and my blaring alarm wasn't making matters better. "Shut up!" I shouted throwing the alarm out of the room. I tried to ignore the fact of what day it was and tried closing my eyes again but sleep evaded me. Rising from my bed I decided to get ready and face today and the rest of the rest of my life head on.

"Morning" Steph said, flipping a pancake. Steph had been with my dad for about four years, they got married on their second. "Ready for today?" she asked. It was more rhetorical since she could tell that I wasn't. "Don't worry it'll all be fine" she said but the worry was written all over her face. My dad chose that moment to appear. "Morning Olivia" he said with an obvious fake smile. It seems I wasn't the only one who was a bit nervous, I mean who wouldn't be nervous for being taken on as an apprentice for a warlock.

Anyone with the gift of magic at the age of sixteen must be apprenticed to a witch or warlock.

We all ate breakfast in an awkward silence knowing this may be the only time we are together for a while. After I finished the pancakes I got up to go pack but it was more of finding an escape from all the tension.

I was told  to pack only the essentials, we were supposed to be going on the road a lot. I barely got any information on who my mentor was  other than he's a warlock.

I always loved the idea of using magic and saving people, that is until I figured that if I went with the warlock I would be leaving my family behind. I never had to worry about leaving friends behind since I never really had any. If no regular person was ever going to know about magic and who I really am then there really is no point. Even if I told someone then I would just get in big trouble with the magic government or whatever their called and plus they would just wipe the persons memory anyway.

Walking back down I hear my dad and Steph whispering to each other but I can't make it out so I give up and walk in. I see them immediately stop and failing to not look suspicious. "Olivia can we talk for a bit?" my dad asks. I already know what he's going to say but I let him continue. He walks over and hugs me, holding me as if letting me go would cause me to shatter. " I just want you to know that you will always have a place to come back to" he says even though we both know that I probably won't be coming back and if I do I definitely won't be able to stay. "Remember we will always be here for you" he says, sounding on the verge of tears. Then there was a knock on the door. My dads whole body tensed. "No, we still have a couple hours left" Steph said looking slightly scared. She slowly walked to the door pausing before opening it.

The man standing there was pretty tall, he had grey hair going down to his shoulders and wore a tattered black cloak even though it was the middle of July. "You can't take her yet we still have some time left!" Steph shouted with tears threatening to spill at any moment. "Please forgive me but if she doesn't leave soon they will come for her" he said. Steph's face drained of color as soon as she heard but she quickly recovered and ran down the hall to get my things. My dad had been quietly holding me and I was suprised he didn't have a single thing to say to the strange man. "Who are the people coming for me " I asked but Steph reappeared at that moment. My dad rose and Steph handed me my pack. "I'll try to come and visit" I said still wondering if I ever will. "We'll be waiting" Steph said, the tears finally falling. I walked up to the man ready to go. I turned back once more to get one last look of the people I loved and my dad was smiling with pride in his eyes. Before I could say anything else the man laid his hand on my shoulder and we were engulfed in darkness.
