25th December 2005
Dear Viktor,
First of all, I wanted to wish You happy happy birthday from here, Japan. I'm really sorry if my English is not clear but for a long time now I felt like writing to You. I didn't really have the courage to do so, but my friend Yūko told me to. Even now, she is still checking if I write the letter. I hope it really isn't that embarassing, I only started but the words just don't match. Talking about feelings is not as easy as skating them...
My name is Katsuki Yuri, I'm an ice skater (well, I try to) and I've been looking up to you since the Juniors in Bulgaria. And I'd really love to congratulate you on them as well! I hope one day, I'll be able to meet you in person on some championships though it is gonna be a hard long way. For now I'm skating in Hasestu, Japan. It's a nice place for vacation, if you'd like one.
For me, skating is the way of expressing myself and getting rid of stress, which is unfortunately quite a big thing. My hands are always shaky and I tend to, god that's so embarrassing, stress-eat before a competition. And my career barely started.
Can I ask You, how does a skater manage pressure? I would love advice on that one, cause I think it's going to be a huge problem if I ever get that high as you are now.
I can't believe I just wrote it but my friend won't allow me to delete it. I hate it when people see I'm not able to do something. Especially...
Anyway, from now on I'll try as hard as I can to get into the Juniors next year and, if I'm good enough, in few years time, into the Worlds to be on the same playing field as You.
With hope of an answer,
Katsuki Yuri

'Is that good? For now?' Yuri asked nervously, looking at his friend with a mixture of anxiety and disgust 'I can't write, I told you. It looks bad, he probably won't even read it' skater stated, without any belief.
'You kidding? Baaaaakaaa, he always writes back. If he didn't, you think he'd be that popular? He'd be hated by everyone. Young, talented, handsome, that's all it takes to unlike someone. He'll send you an answer. Just click it already.' Yuki ordered. She really couldn't look at him being like that. The guy knew everything there was to know about Viktor, he had all his posters ever released and the dog named after the skater. What was left more? Just go and talk to him!
'Yeah yeah I'll, I just want to delete these... i sent it. Oh no.'
'Well at least you did it quickly. Now we wait'
'Wait, what a fun, wait and see, humiliated, he will hate me for it, oh god' Yuri thought to himself. Instead he faked a smile, looked into Yuki's eyes and confirmed 'Now we wait'
Soon after that, the girl headed home and he was left alone. His heart was beating faster and faster, like it was about to explode. He couldn't focus on anything although he hit the button hours ago. What's Viktor like off-ice? What does he like? Can we make friends? Those questions were going through his thoughts constantly, without a break.

The snow was falling down and the streets of St Petersburg were slowly turning white when the young man finally entered the building. He just returned from his birthday party with tone of gifts and nice memories, but completely exhausted. The flat still smelled of fresh paint, though it started to feel like home since he brought his dog into. The skater took his coat off, still recovering from the cold weather outside made himself a cup of tea. Though his night with friends was fun, he missed his family very much. His dad passed away when he was little and his mom was always trying to pay for his education so he mostly remembered growing up under Yakov's eye. It was supposed to be different this year. He was supposed to go on holidays with his mother but instead he needed to stay in Russia and practice. His mom went with her brother on a tour round America, leaving him and his poddle at home.
He wasn't mad, no, he was disappointed. His career was getting out of his hands. He loved the crowd, skating, "the ice world" as he called it, but he lacked people.
His usual habit was to check the mail before sleeping. Usually lots of people cheered on him, and asked for autograph, photo, some kind of rememberance. This one, he never forgot
For me, skating is the way of expressing myself and getting rid of stress ... Nice one...Katsuki Yuri? Viktor smiled as he continued reading the boy's letter.
'Oh boy, I'll definitely help you' he said to himself and started thinking about the answer to the Japanese guy's problems...
