"So we get to pick or first Pokemon from these three?" , a little boy asked, as I came running in. Neptune had moved from my shoulder to my head. "Oh, Genesis there you are!" Professor Elm said. "Come meet the new trainers." I ran over, and stopped in front of the trainers. "Hello there, I'm Genesis Foster. The professor's assistant. What are your names?"      " Hello, I'm Fern and this-" she elbowed her brother, "Oh hey, I'm Clover." Clover turned to the professor, " Can we choose now?" he said, practically bouncing up and down. Fern wore a green dress that went to her knees, with black and white sneakers. Her hair was a dirt brown, that lay at the tip of her shoulders. It had a shine to it. She had her hair in low pigtails. While Fern was more dressed up for the special occasion of picking your first Pokémon, her brother, Clover, had on black and blue shorts with a green and black jacket and a brown shirt. His hair was more of a ginger brown, and stuck out in all directions. They smiled up at the professor with Amber eyes and  a spray of freckles on both of their faces. "Yes, you may but one at a time, please." The professor said. "Girls first!" Fern immediately yelled, pushing pass her brother. Clover, grudgingly stepped aside grumbling "Fine but only this one time."                                                        "Lets see." She bent down to be eye level with the Pokémon. She stared intently at the three Pokemon. Totodile looked away,Chikorita ran and hide behind my leg. I bent down to calm Chikorita down, reassuring it. Cyndaquil on the other hand stayed and starred back at her. She smiled. "Professor can I have this one?" She said pointing at Cyndaquil. " It's your choice,"  Professor Elm said. He pulled a hand-sized pink pokedex out of his pocket , along with six pokeballs. " This," he held up the lotus pink colored pokedex "is a pokedex. It can help  identify Pokemon whenever you meet or capture them. It can also tell you how close an egg is too hatching and tell you about the Pokemon in your party like what moves it has. It has many other functions along with those. It also serves as your ID." He handed her the pokedex. She opened the pokedex, pressing a button  and putting it over Cyndaquil.  *Cyndaquil the Fire Mouse Pokemon, Cyndaquil protects itself by flaring up the flames on its back. The flames are vigorous if the Pokemon is angry. However, if it is tired, the flames sputter fitfully with incomplete combustion.

"Cool" she put the pokedex in her pocket on her dress. "And here are your pokeballs. Heres Cyndaquil's" He handed them to her. "Alright, you got your Pokemon now let me choose mine." He pushed past her. The bent down to look at the last two remaining. Chikorita had a sweet smile on her face and was sitting down, acting very calm. While Totodile was jumping up and down enthusiastically. Probably trying to get Clover's attention. I chuckled. Totodile has always been like this. At least since it got here. Clover was staring intently at the two Pokemon. "I want the jumpy one." Clover said pointing to Totodile. I could have sworn Totodile jumped a foot higher. Chikorita looked like it was close to tears. I walked over to it. "It's okay, there are many other soon-to-be trainers." I whispered to it, then hugged it. Chikorita looked up at me with tears in its eyes and nestled up in my arms. I smiled. "Here you are Clover." Professor Elm handed him a Crimson Red pokedex and six pokeballs. Clover immediately opened up his pokedex and and checked his new pokemon.

*Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokemon. Despite the smallness of it's body, Totodile's jaws are very powerful. While the pokemon may think it is just playfully nipping, its bite has enough power to cause serious injury.

"Cool." Clover bent down and down to pat his Totodile. "Nice to meetchya' little buddy." he whispered to Totodile with a smile on his face. The girl, Fern, was practically out the door already. "Come on Clover! I wanna go find a Pokémon contest!" she shouted to her brother, her voice, quivering with excitement. "There aren't any Pokémon contests in Johto. Fern!" Clover began to run after her then stopped. Her turned back to the Professor and bowed. "Thank you for everything, Professor Elm." he said then ran after his twin. "Hey wait," I called over to Fern. She stopped and looked back at me, Cyndaquil in her arms. Her brother was right beside her with Totodile at his side, looking curiously back at me. "There may not be any contests in Johto but there's some in Hoenn and Sinnoh. I suggest you go there if you want to participate, but don't forget that you'll need a contest pass." Fern's face lit up with a smile. " Really? Thank you!" Then she and her brother ran off. Arguing with each other as to whether they go and catch Pokémon first or go back home for a while to prepare for their journey. As they went further and further away their bickering faded. It was quiet again in the Johto Pokémon Lab.
