Peter's P.O.V

Half way through the packing I was already tired and frustrated. I had had a lot of breaks and it was already eight in the evening. I had stopped for a thirty minute shower, one hour lunch, thirty minutes of doing the dishes with the stuff-part of grooming. I had had an hour of supper and a long uncalled for nap.

I threw my suitcase on the floor and went to the telephone. I had the urge to rip it up and deal with my frustrations on it but common sense advised me otherwise. So instead, I dialed the number of the other person who I held feelings of trust towards. He helped me calm down sometimes.

I had had the telephone installed for his place too even if managing two bills was a little expensive. Now with me moving out I knew we would have to start managing three bills. It was really exhausting especially since the payments were only available in Port Bennyfraw which was about three hundred kilometers from St Peter's.

St Peter's was still very primitive, well most of the country was primitive so finding offices for telephone installments and payment was very difficult. Reception was frustrating too, especially on rainy days.

I dialed the number quickly and three rings later my best friend answered the phone. He had a smile to his voice which forced a smile into mine. I smiled to no one else but him and I preferred it that way.

"Hey Lake, how are you?"

"Great. How's them folks back at home? I should really come and visit. Them girls home?. Transportation is very hard findin', that place be as rocky as crazy pal."

Then an idea struck me. "Come tomorrow by train. I will be waiting for you. If you leave at five in the morrow, you will get here around two after noon. So I will see you then?" I asked.

"I'm broke. I wanted to be there really. But hey, Imma try 'n make it there. Wait for me at the train station by two then."

"Bring your luggage, I am moving to Wellington tomorrow and I am taking over J&J Mining company. I will tell you the rest tomorrow. I have to get back to packing, the parents want me out of the house as fast as you will want someone you are kicking out, out of your house."

"Damn, they mean. Ya ain't tellin' me what's happening totally. Ya okay?" Now he was being pathetic and I did not like it.

"All is fine, Lake. So you will help me settle, okay?"

"Yeah, Imma do it. Buh I wanna come to Wellington first then we gonna go get the resta ya stuff when I get there. Imma bit awkward with ya folks, them be strict as wardens of hell, not talkin' to me an' all. Ya siblings are scared of me. So ya gonna take me to Wellington? An' luggage ya talkin' abou'"

I knew the reason for the way my parents treated him was that he socialised with me. Birds of the same feathers flock together- ever heard of this one? Of course. So the reason why my parents treated Lake that way was because they thought he was a duplicate of me. He was however the opposite of me.

"Okay then. We will go to Wellington. My parents want to see you though, so good luck on trying to hide when you are only a thirty minute ride away. See you then." I hung up and went on with the packing.

It was a good thing that I kept everything I needed or rather all that belonged to me was kept in my room. I placed everything neatly in the boxes, even the lamps and the vases. I knew the vases were a bit of a stretch but I really needed them.

"So, you will come and visit often?" My head snapped to the door where my mother stood looking awkward. She looked out of place with her fragile anatomy. Something in her had changed, she looked scared of me.
