"Izzy I swear I'm okay. Just calm down." I said.

"Okay, okay. I'm just worried about you Kirsten." She said through the phone and I smiled.

"Don't worry, be happy." I said and heard her chuckle.

"So, how about that Luke guy? Do you like him?" She asked. I rolled my eyes, knowing she couldn't see through the phone.

"Izzy, yesterday at the beach was just a coincidence. A lot of people go to the beach, by the way." I said. A lot of people go to the beach, Kirsten, that's all. I tried to tell myself.

"Fine. Believe what you want even though it's obvious." She said. I honestly didn't want to talk about this anymore so I came up with an excuse to hang up. Yep, this is how I treat my best friend.

"Hey, Izzy, Sarah's home today and wants me to make her some lunch. I'll talk to you later." I said.

"Wait!" She screeched. I cringed and put the phone back on my ear.

"Yes?"

"I've asked Mason to talk with Luke and investigate for us, bye!" She said extremely quickly and hung up. It took me a moment to process the jumbled up pile of words that flew out of her mouth. Ugh. Did she seriously ask Mason to talk to Luke for us?

She did, didn't she.

Ahh!! (That's me, screaming in my head.) It's going to be so embarrassing if he finds out. This is an extremely bad idea.

I looked at the time 2:43. I slept the morning away and I'm proud of myself.

I stared at the ceiling and got lost in thought. I don't know what made my mind wander to Luke. It's going to be really awkward now. As if it wasn't awkward before. He's seen something after barely knowing me for a week that my best friend Izzy hadn't known about in the nine years I've known her. I hate my life. Then, I heard my phone buzz on the table beside my bed.

Are you okay? -L.S.

What? Who's L.S.? And why do they care if I'm okay? It was an unknown number so how did they get my number in the first place?

Kirsten, it's okay to text me back. -L.S.

Me: Who is this?

L.S.: Luke.

What? Oh! Luke Sholders, L.S. I'm so dumb.

Me: How did you get my number?

Luke: Are you okay?

He totally avoided my question! All I want to know is who gave the most popular guy in school my phone number? It's really creepy. If people are just finding out my number, or someone's telling them, my brother might find it.

Me: Answer my question first.

Luke: Mason.

Me: Why did he give you my number?

Luke: Because I asked

What? Why did he want my number?

Luke: I just want to know that you're okay.

It's like he read my mind through text message. He wants to know if I'm okay? Wtf? Is there something wrong with me because my heart just leapt out of my chest? It's practically in my throat. How does Luke Sholders do this to me? He's not even in the room and I'm still going crazy. I read it over and over again before replying.

Me: I'm fine.

Luke: No you're not.

Me: Really, I'm fine.

Luke: I'm going to stop arguing because you want me to, not because I'm convinced.

The bad boy cares about me? This is a first. I've dated a bunch of the popular guys but not Luke. He was never waiting in line for me but now that I don't want to date, he's trying to get me to open up to a guy I've only known for a week. It's not going to work. I won't let my heart break again. I don't trust Luke Sholders.

Sarah's not home today which is weird. It's Sunday so she should be here. Who knows where she's at. Once she came home at three in the morning, drunk out of her mind and was banging at my door asking for this chick named Barbara Ann. Then she started singing Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys. It was pretty creepy.
