The Watchful Eye

 It's funny how as an only child how my parents behaved with me. I remember it wasn't till I was sixteen that I had my first sleep over. Even than my mother called four times to check on me. I remember my dad always walking me to school or dropping me off, that was before Darren came into the picture. Most of the time my parents where really guarded when it came to me dating. They always stayed close. Always having their hands out ready to catch me when I fall.

 I watched as my dad picked up the plates off the dinner. He still made the best steak in the world. His cooking always got me to come visit. I only came visited maybe once or twice a month. It was always nice to see my parents. It was reminder of who I was and where I came from.

"So, when does Darren come home?" My heart skipped a beat.

"Not till spring. He's been working really hard. He doesn't the money for the trip home right now. " It was hard to lie to him. To lie to my parents.

"Hope comes home soon. You have been depressed since he gone off to collage." I didn't want to talk about this my dad. I could feel myself wanting to cry.

"Yeah I hope so too. " My mom came into the dinning room.

"Okay it's time for girl talk." My mom's face was serious. What ever she wanted to talk about she wanted to make sure my dad wasn't around to hear it. With what she had just said in mind my dad quickly left the room. My  mom  set the cake down in front me and pulled out a  chair for me to sit.

"You know the last time you told dad you wanted to talk girl talk with me. You had asked was I having sex." My mom smiled a little but it was hidden by whatever she was thinking.

"It's not that kind talk kid." My mom said down. She tried to relax her face but, it didn't work.

"What is this about mom?"

"This about you and Darren." I could hear her heart betting faster. She was nervous.

"I know something going on. Something beyond the normal." Did she know? Could she really know what I am?

"Mom, I don't know what you mean?" I lied to her face.

"Yes, you do. I know about what happened in the woods with Darren's family and that boy. I saw Darren bit you." She saw it all. She saw what happened.

"Mom it's not what you...."

"Don't lie to me. I know what I saw. I don't know what is  but I know something is going on. Why Darren isn't around. Why do barley visit." She cut me off.

"Mom it's hard for me to explain it." I told her. 

"I don't want you too." She took the knife and sliced the cake. "I just want you to know that I am here for you." My mom took the piece of cake and put on my plate. She didn't know what I was but she knew I was something not normal. I had to be more careful.
