I watched as the world was covered in this amazing, bright light. Just a few moments ago, my mother was laughing at an adult joke my father sprung. I had pretend to laugh, not understanding why his words were so funny to her. He slapped his knee with the same hand that held a match to light my birthday cake.A paper towel caught the flames, and everything caught ablaze. Mom locked eyes with me in a terror, and my dad was able to shove us out the door just as the entryway collapsed. The fire had escalated more than we'd imagine it would have, devouring the house. My mom scooped me up, putting me in her arms and looking back at what was once a perfect house. She opened her phone and called 911, frantically yelling orders at the dispatcher.
I noticed her voice get weaker and weaker, her breathes getting more and more rigid as each breath filled her lungs. I searched her, trying to figure out what could cause her such pain. She pushed up my chin and sat me down, looking into my eyes with sad, beautiful blue eyes. Tears endlessly streamed down her face as she closed her phone and looked at the black smoke billowing from the windows. She grasped her stomach and sighed. I grabbed her hand away, screaming at the blood that came with it."Mommy, no!!!" I screamed, watching her lie down and beckon me closer. "I love you sweet. Be strong, I'm going to be with God, now." She whispered, pushing my hair back and kissing my cheek. She pushed her phone into my hand and her eyes fluttered shut. "No, I'm not ready!" I yelled at her lifeless body, grabbing onto her hand and sobbing into her neck.
