That Latin or scientific name applies to carnation flowers of all colors, not just solid orange.
*Hanayuri's POV*
"Sou ieba, tegami wa nani o iu desu ka? [Come to think of it, what does the letter say?]" Yuricchan asked."Sono naiyou o yomanakatta desu. [I didn't read its content.]" I answered.
"Demo, tashika sore wa saki no tegami to onaji desu. [But I'm sure it's the same as the previous letter.]" I added.
"How can you be so sure?" She asked.
"Kiiroi bara desu. Ano hana o mittan da, tegami no inkan toshite. [Yellow rose. I saw that flower, as the letter's stamp.]"
Few hours have passed and it's recess time. Before eating my bento (boxed lunch), I searched the school garden for a solid orange carnation and attached a sticky note on its stem with the following characters:
一田 花百合から。 [From Ichida Hanayuri].Yuricchan suddenly came out of nowhere and asked.
"What's that flower for?"
"It means that I accept his friendship."I told her.
"Sore de, soriddo orenjiiro na ka-ne-shon no imi wa... [So, the meaning of solid orange carnation...]"she said.
"'HAI' desu. Demo soriddo orenjiiro dake janai yo. [Is 'YES'. But it's not only solid orange.]"
"Eh!?"
"Nandemo iro desu. Kagiri, sore wa tanshoku desu. [It's any color. As long as it's a solid color.]"
"Ohhh... Naruhodo. [Ohhh... I see.]"
I put the flower with the note inside Ittoki-kun's locker. Afterwards, I ate my bento.
Five minutes before recess time ends, Ittoki-kun went to our classroom.
"Ichida-san wa doko? [Where's Ichida-san?]" He asked to my classmates and they pointed to where I'm seating.
"Ichida-san, kono hana no imi wa nani? [Ichida-san, what's the meaning of this flower?]" He asked in a cold tone while holding the solid orange carnation.
"Shiranai desu ka? Hana no kotoba ni, sono hana wa 'HAI' o imisuru. [You don't know? In the language of the flowers, that flower means 'YES'.]"
"Sou desu ka? [Is that so?]"
"Hai. [Yes]"
"Yokatta! Sore de, bokutachi wa ima nakama dayo ne? [Thanks! So, we're friends now, right?]" He said.
"Kagirinai, kagirinai? [Unli, unli?]"
"Arigatou gozaimasu! [Thank you.]" He uttered.
Wahhh! Kare wa atashi ni kansha shita! [He thanked me!]
Atashi wa fukaku kangeisareteiru! [I'm so flattered deep inside!]
Kare no koe mo kak--koii! [His voice is also co-ol!']"Hana-chan, Hana-chan?" Yuricchan called me many times but I'm not responding.
"Na-nani? [W-what?]" I asked.
"Juugyou wo hajimeru yo. [The class is starting, you know.]"
"Ah. Gomen, gomen. Teehee... [Ah. Sorry, sorry. Teehee...]"
"Mattaku, nani ga shiteiru no?[For goodness sake, what are you doing?]"
*Author's POV*
There's this pair of homophonic words in the Japanese language. They are "shiteiru" and "shitteiru". As you can see, they're not the same in spelling and, of course, they differ in meaning. "Shiteiru", which is written in Japan as している, is the progressive form of the Japanese word for the verb 'do'(する, suru), that is, doing.Shitteiru on the other hand, which is written as 知っている, is the progressive form of the Japanese word for the verb 'know' (知る, shiru), that is 'knowing'.
*Hanayuri's POV*
"Nanimo. [Nothing.]" I answered.
"Hontou ni? [Really?]"
"Hontou desu yo. Atashi wa nanimo shiteinai. [Really. I'm doing nothing.]"
"Demo, kimi wa kuusou shiteiru you desu. [But, it seems to me you're daydreaming.]"
"Kuusou shiteinai! [I'm not daydreaming!]"
"Hai, hai. [Okay, okay.]"
"Yuricchan ttara." I uttered.
*Author's POV*
Ttara is a particle that is also used to show exasperation, just like mou. Tteba functions the same way as this. It's up to the speaker if what particle he/she wants to use.
*Hanayuri's POV*
Few seconds later, Kusanagi Chihiro-sensei, our Chemistry teacher arrived.
"Ohayou gozaimasu, minna. [Good morning class.]"
"Ohayou gozaimasu, Kusanagi-sensei. Ninen A-gumi e yokusou. [Good morning Ma'am Kusanagi. Welcome to 2nd Year Section A.]"
"Minna-san, ima no kyoukun wa Genso Shuukiritsu da. [Everyone, our lesson for today will be the Periodic Table of Elements.]"
"Shuukiritsu no hatsugenso wa nandesu ka? Dareka? [What's the first element in the periodic table? Anyone?]" Our teacher asked.
A minute has passed but no one answered nor even raised a single hand.
"Okay, if no one wants to answer voluntarily, I'll just call someone." She (our teacher) said.
"Ichida-san, what's the answer?"
"Ano, etto.... [Uhmm]" Those are the only words I could produce that time since I haven't studied the periodic table yet.
Then Takasora-kun suddenly stood up and said...
"Sensei, suiso desu. [Ma'am, it's hydrogen.]"
"Good. You may now sit. Ichida-san, next time, try to borrow a book from your classmates if you don't have any books yet, okay?"
"Got it, ma'am."
And so, Kusanagi-sensei taught for an hour.
After few hours, classes were finally over. The weather was fine when it suddenly start to shower.
"Shimatta. Atashi no kasa o motteki wasurechatta! [Oops. I forgot to bring my umbrella!]"
And so I waited few hours for the rain to stop. After a while, Karasuma-sensei passed by.
"Ichida-san, ame wa todaenai kamo shirenai yo. [Ichida-san, it might not stop raining, you know.]"
Oh my! How can I return home if the rain doesn't have any plan to stop!? Then I thought of something. I'll just have to wait for the rain to calm even a little.
Several minutes later, the rain calmed a little. I took that opportunity to run through the very light shower to return home. My hair was wet (but not really wet that drips) the moment I arrived to my apartment, so I just decided to wipe it out with a towel.
