"That's it," said Jessica proudly. I had stepped up to cantering around the barrels. "Next time try galloping." Her phone started to ring in her back pocket. Artemesia started but quickly calmed. It was only enough to make me gasp real loud. Jessica winced a bit.
"Sorry," she said. "Should've put it on silent." She flipped the phone open (yes, she had a flip phone) and checked the screen. She frowned before she said "It's Amy. I wonder if they forgot food." We giggled a bit. She answered it and brought her hand up to her ear.
Her smile immediately dropped, and so did her phone. She took a breath to compose herself and finally spoke. "It's Lindsey."
I sprung into action and took off at a gallop. Except it wasn't through the barrels.

Amy's POV
Pumpernickel reared as the fawn jumped out from hiding and flung Lindsey off his back. I heard a loud thud as her body hit the ground. Pumpernickel took off running and I turned Annie in a circle to calm her nerves.
I jumped off her back when she was calmer and dropped the reins in front of her. Even though she was still a bit crazed, I trusted her to ground tie. I ran to Lindsey and kneeled beside her.
"Lindsey," I said practically yelling. I knew it was important to stay calm when accidents happen but how could I when I just saw a 14 year old girl flung from the back of a 16 hand horse.
She wasn't responding to anything I was saying or doing. I checked her pulse and watched her stomach. Her heart was beating and her chest was spazzing. She must have had the wind knocked out of her and her lungs were looking for air.
I pulled out my cell and quickly dialed Jessica's number. "Jessica, it's Lindsey. She was thrown off and is laying unconscious," I explained quickly as I heard her answer. "Jess? Hello?" She wasn't responding.
I hung up and dialed 911. I quickly explained the situation and gave the deep voice my address. They said that they would send an ambulance out as quickly as possible. I hung up the phone and reprimanded myself. Even the closest hospital was a good half hour away. That's too long if any major damage has been done.
I ran to Lindsey again and checked her pulse and watched her chest. Everything was good. I went over to Raggedy Ann and started removing the saddle.
"The saddle bags might serve some support for you," I said aloud. I didn't know much about medical things such as brain damage, but I thought it would be a good idea to talk to her. I think it keeps the brain working or something.
Annie let out a loud neigh as if she was calling to someone. I looked in the direction she was and saw Jessica riding towards us at a fast pace on Artemesia. It was a pretty sight to see, a mustang with a gleaming gray coat running through a field of green. I knew Jessica would come as soon as possible. But as she came nearer, I realized that her dark hair wasn't as dark. Then a paint emerged behind Artie. I squinted against the sun. The paint was not wearing a saddle. The rider's hair was darker.

Olivia's POV
"Hey Linds," I greeted as I walked into the guest room. She was lying on her back in bed. It had only been about 20 minutes and Amy said that the ambulance should be here soon. Lindsey was trying to respond to everything. Not talking-wise, but things like squeezing our hands when we tell her. From what I've read I decided that Lindsey was in a coma. I took a seat beside her bed and took her hand.
"Can you squeeze this hand?" I asked. I felt a slow, soft squeeze. "Good. Now I'm going to move to the other side." I stood beside her bedside table and had her squeeze. Then I went back to the other side and sat in the chair. "I know you'll be fine," I said. I just wanted to talk to her know. "I hope you were having a good time before this happened. Even though I'm still not sure what happened. That's actually what Amy is explaining to your mom now." I just kept rambling on. "I wish you could see Amy's face when I galloped up on Artemesia. Oh yea, I rode Artemesia. Through the barrels and everything. I bet I could beat you any day," I said with a laugh. Then my smile dropped quickly.
What if Lindsey won't want to ride again? I just started riding again? On my way to get her I even imagined us going on trail rides together, showing together, and traveling together with our horses to God knows where to have fun doing whatever. It's like everything just... flipped. I want to ride and Lindsey might not. A tear dripped down my cheek and into my lap.
I stared at Lindsey as I thought and let out a sniffle. My friend was lying here lifeless, until... what was that? Her eyes flickered open quickly. But then they closed tight.

I have an idea for the sequel by the way. But I need 500 reads on here first, so make sure you share this book with your followers! (hint hint)
Make sure you vote and you know I like to read comments even if it's just something as simple as a smiley face >>> :)
Thanks!!!
