"Even death must be earned," she said, picking up what I thought was a blade from the platter. I heard the softest moan.
Please, just hold on...
"Stop! Please!" I begged, "She won't make it!" She only smiled at my pleas.
"You never learn, do you, Princess?" She moved around the table, her back facing me.
"No! Please. Please!" I hiccuped, my throat torn from my cries of desperation. "Please." My sobs were pitiful and broken.
After all this time, she finally got what she wanted. I couldn't pretend anymore. She finally did it...and Jesse had been right. From the start, he had been right. I could only see the flicker of the blade through my blurred vision, but I could her the whimpers and gasps of pain. I couldn't stop her...
Shaking, bloody, and chained, I felt defeat pulling me to the ground. I couldn't fight. Not after this. She moved around the other side of the table facing me. Blinking through the tears, I stared at her, I could barely make out her facial features in the pale lighting. Her eyes smiled, full of hate and glory. It is absolutely incredible how someone's eyes could haunt your dreams. She lifted a piece of cloth from the table, and wiped down the blade. Without a word, she turned away from us, and seeped back into the darkness. I twitched at the echo of her footsteps, leaving us behind. She doesn't matter. My eyes returned to the table.
"Please," I breathed the word.
I heard the softest whimper and the jagged inhale of breath come from the table, then silence. A sound I feared more than anything at this moment.
"Cass?"
Nothing.
"Cass!" There was no response, not even a twitch. "Cassidy!" My legs gave out, and I dropped forward sobbing, my arms being yanked behind me. My shoulders ached from the pull of the restraints, refusing to give even an inch of slack. The weight of my body bit into the iron cuffs, splitting the chaffed skin of my wrists. As blood seeped onto the metal, the sigils reignited and I screamed as electricity ripped at my body. I was breathless from pain. Breathless from crying. Breathless as the body before me...
"Please! Somebody help! Castiel! God! Jesse!" My head fell forward, my chest burning from the deprivation of breath."Someone! Please!" It doesn't matter. "Please! Somebody save her!" I cried. "Save her!" The silence beat into my ears, making my head spin.
There I was. The daughter of the legend. The girl who supposedly broke fate. Screaming in a cellar for the one person I truly couldn't save. It's all your fault. I let the voice inside me berate me, I deserved it. The war was over...
"Cass...Cassidy!" I cried her name, shaking, "Please! Cass please! I can't lose you too. I can't!" Another pulse of electricity ripped through me, another scream leaving me desperate for air.
"I'm so sorry. Cassidy, I am so sorry." I trembled, vibrating with shock and anguish, "I... I said I would protect you. I..." I was overtaken by another overwhelming sob, "It's all my fault." I could only make out her silhouette on the steel table, the shine of her black her, hanging off the side. Her face was turned away from me. "Cass, I..." But what was there to say! What could I possibly say now.
-One Week Earlier-
"You two are riding with us." Sam said pointing at Cassidy and Jess. " Rachel, you and Krissy will be taking the Firebird. Krissy, you're driving the first half." I yawned, but nodded my head. It had been quite sometime since I had been up at 4 a.m.
"How far is it from here to Tulsa?" Cassidy asked, looking up from her computer.
"About nine hours straight through. We'll be taking I-29 S and US-169 S. You both have gps on your phones so it shouldn't be a problem navigating. It's a pretty straight shot from here." Dean replied. Krissy and I both nodded. "We won't be stopping, at least for the most part."
