It was a normal day. Nothing special. The birds chirp extra early for no reason as the sun starts to rise. The blaring ling seeps through the curtains making an 18-year old girl groan as she rolls over away from the light. Yelling can be heard muffled by her door, her mom calling her to get up. She groans sitting up slowly rubbing her eyes. Getting up from her very comfortable bed, she stretches her body before heading to the bathroom. Getting ready for school was always the hardest part of being a high school student. She was tired of going to the place for 8 hours and she just wanted to finally be done with it. Luckily it was her last year there; she just needed to survive it.
Getting dressed in uniform, fixes her hair one more time before grabbing her bag and heading downstairs. Heading to the kitchen, she throws her bag onto the couch before taking a seat at the dining table.
"Morning mom." She says. Her mom greets her and puts a plate of food in front of her. "Hurry and eat. You're going to be late to school at this point." Her mom says folding her arms. As she was eating she decided to glance at the clock. And surely it was a good thing she did. It was already half passed seven.
"Mom why didn't you wake me up earlier! It's already 7:30!" She says quickly trying scarf all the food down she could. "I tried to Lucy, but you just went back to sleep after I did." Her mom says pinching the bridge of her nose.
Lucy quickly rushes to get her bag and head to the front door. Her mom just watches as she scampers around making sure she has everything. She thinks to herself, just how did her daughter become like this.
"I'm off, I see you when I get back." Lucy states before rushing out the door. Her mom quickly rushes to the door. " Just to say, we need to talk when you come back." Lucy gives her a thumbs up before getting out of sight of her mom.
Her mom, Layla, sighs. She doesn't know what she's going to do with her. "She's gone?" Jude, Lucy's father, asks fixing his tie as he descends from upstairs. Layla nods her head. "Jude what am I going to do with her. At this point how will I know she will snag a husband at this point." She says worried about her daughter's future.
"Isn't too early to be thinking about Lucy getting married?" Jude asked sitting down and eating.
Layla sits in the chair next to him, "What do you mean too early? She's eighteen already."
He takes a bite of the fluffy pancake on his plate. "That's what I mean, she's barely eighteen. We got married when we were twenty-seven all because of our parents. And I still think that's too early."
"Well our parents' didn't." Layla says. "I'm just worried for her. She's going to be inheriting the company in the future, I just want someone reliable for her."
He gets up and kisses her on the cheek before placing his hands on her shoulders. "That will happen in due time, let's not talk about this until it happens. Okay?" Layla just nods her head in defeat. But in her mind she had other plans. Matchmaking plans. So as Lucy's parents get ready to start the day, she's rushing down the halls of the school.

She had two minutes left to get to her class and be seated before the teacher walks in. Her shiny, yellow hair, which she inherited from her mom, was now all tangled and in a mess. She opens the back door to the class out of breath. Her face is flushed and her legs feel sore. She catches her breath before making it into the class. Right as she took a step in, the bell rings. She panics and sits in the nearest desk she could find. Her seat is in the middle of the classroom by the window which was two tables in front of her. She silently prays to herself that the person who sits here is absent. It was going to be an awkward situation to explain why you're sitting in their seat to them and the teacher. Just as she finished praying, the teacher walks in and places her stull onto the podium.
"Good morning class. Let's start the class shall we?" Ms. Strauss says cheerful before taking the roll sheet out. One by one she calls out students' names. While that was happening, Lucy was coming up how she was going to move to her seat after roll call. She thought she should move when the teacher started writing on the board. She agreed with the plan in her head and got ready to execute it.
After everyone's name was called, she got ready. Ms. Strauss turned her back to write down the first part of their lesson and Lucy started to creep out of the seat towards her. Before she even got close, the classroom door opens to Natsu Dragneel, who was considered a delinquent to the teachers and the students. Without even batting an eye at him, Ms. Strauss already knew who it was.
"Natsu, you're late again. When will you ever be on time." She states still writing on the chalkboard.
"Never." He says with a smile. Ms. Strauss just sighs before telling him to sit down. Lucy takes the opportunity to quickly take her seat next to her best friend, Levy. She was thankful that the teacher didn't notice, but on the other hand, the salmon haired boy did.
Lucy Heartfilia. Everyone knows her. Daughter of the owner of Love & Lucky. The top student of Fairy High. Friend with the popular kid named Gray Fullbuster. They were many things she was known for. And yet no one knew the real her. After a few minutes of instruction, the whole class became a study period for the upcoming midterm. It's the beginning of November, the weather is slowly descending into a bone chilling winter. Every student is wearing their winter uniform, some wearing more layers than others. As everyone starts to chatter among their friends, the quiet classroom become a room of chatter boxes.
A sigh escapes Lucy's mouth as she quickly rests her head onto the table. "I'm so tired." She states, her friend Levy, just shakes her head at her.
"You say that you're tired and yet you're the one who get the most sleep out of all of us since you're late half of the time." Levy states as she rests her cheek on her hand propped up on the table. "I don't understand why you're still called a honor student."
A laugh follows Levy sentence as Gray turns around in his seat right in front of them. "She's lazy and stays up all night reading webtoons and playing games. And yet she still refrains the good student act with full marks in all her classes. She's like the real life Umaru-chan." Gray states tapping on Lucy's head. Lucy just groans in response.
"I binged-read this AMAZING webtoon, and even cried when I finished it." She sits up before taking again.
"And then I realized that it was already three in the morning and couldn't sleep well because I couldn't stop thinking of the ending of that. It was just too good." Lucy says, reminiscing now on the webtoon with tears pricking her eyes. Levy looks at her in disbelief which Gray just shakes his head in disappointment.
"Well, get some sleep for now. I'll wake you up with the period is over with." Gray says ruffling Lucy's hair before noticing someone piercing glare towards them. Lucy nods in return and rests her head back on the table. Gray on the other hand makes quick eye contact with Natsu who was apparently shooting daggers at Lucy.
"Hey Lucy, did you do something to get on Natsu's bad side?" He ask with concern. Lucy hums with confusion.
"What do you mean?" She replies her head still down on the table. Gray takes another glance at Natsu to see he's still staring.
"He's legit burning a hole in your back right now." He gestures to Levy to look. Levy turns around slightly to see what Gray was talking about. "Oh yeah, he is. Did you accidently say something bad to him?"
Lucy quickly sits up and looks behind her. Even if Natsu was two rows behind her, he was still making an effort to glare at her. Making eye contact with him, he stares at her more harshly. Seeing that, Lucy quickly turns around.
"I've never bumped into him never less talked to him before." Lucy says while scratching her head.
It was weird that he would hold a grudge against her. They had no reason to talk to each other nor bump into. Lucy hung out with just Gray and Levy. And Natsu, well he hung out with Gajeel and Laxus which are considered delinquents of the school.
Natsu stared hard. He never noticed her until something made him. No it wasn't because she snuck out of his seat. Heck it helped him notice her but there was a different cause. Natsu hated living at home. It was too suffocating. His parents never cared half of what he did, just always thought the worse of him. The only person in his household who gotten any love and affection was his little sister Wendy who was a year younger than him.
He worked his ass off: got good grades, did the chores, worked multiple jobs too but what he want. But it was worthless to them. He worked so much he had enough money to get his own place and move out. He was excited, stoked to get out and do whatever he wanted. But that happiness was cut short by his parents. He was going to be able to move out, but he wouldn't be alone.
