The eight year old Colin awoke with a groan. A metallic smell clung to the air around him, making him gag.

"Wha-" He cut himself off with a cry, as he looked around the once quaint living room. He saw three mangled bodies, whom he could tell was his family. He looked to his hands in shock.

Their blood coated his hands, the scarlet substance staining his clothes and sticking under his nails.

"Colin?" A musical voice asked, "why do you return to them? The woman who claimed that she was your mother... She could never love you like I do. For I am your true mother."

Colin had returned Adelisa back to castle, and they sat in the gardens, Adelisa eating a pastry from the baker. She had shivered slightly, which did not go unnoticed by Colin.

"Are you cold?" He asked.

"A little," she replied softly. She wasn't ready to go back inside, she found that she was beginning to enjoy his company.

He removed his heavy cloak and wrapped it around her shoulders. "Here."

She shook her head and pouted, "now you will be cold." She tried to take off the heavy coat.

"Leave it. I was getting too warm anyway."

They sat in comfortable silence. A few minutes passed before either had said anything. "Will you ever forget me?"

She was shocked. Why would he ask me that?

"No, I don't think I will..."

He nodded solemnly.

"Why?" She moved closer to him when he didn't reply.

"I leave for war, tomorrow."

She wrapped her arms around him, "will you come back?"

He smiled softly. "I will always do anything within my power to return."

A call was heard in the distance, "Adelisa!"

She buried her head in his chest. Tears began to burn her eyes, and she didn't know why.

Arms wound around her waist and pulled her closer. "I will think of you always, Adelisa. Never forget, when I return, I will make you mine."

He separated from her reluctantly, and left, leaving Adelisa thoroughly confused.

"Adelisa! I have been looking all over for you. Where have you been?" Her mother asked. "And whose coat is that?"

"I have been admiring the gardens. It is so pretty with the fresh snow, don't you think?"

"Of course, dear.  Now come along, it is getting late."

Her mother walked beside her, "now are you going to tell me whose coat that is?"

Adelisa nodded, "my guard had noticed that I was cold, and he gave it to me."

"Ah," her mother smiled brightly, "Colin Hendrix. Handsome lad. You know, when I first met your father, he gave me his coat. We were taking a stroll through the gardens as well. Not here though, he visited my kingdom when he courted me."

Adelisa giggled, "are you saying that we should marry?"

"Well, I wouldn't be against the idea. Your father however, wouldn't be so fond of the idea."

They arrived at the stairs leading up to her room, "goodnight mother."

"Goodnight dear, I will see you in the morning."

She ascended the stairs that went up to her chambers. She shed the heavy coat and changed into a night dress, getting into her bed.

Finding that she could not sleep, she wrapped the coat around herself and walked out onto her balcony. The night stars were bright amongst the darkness of the sky.

"Why must he leave? And why do I care so much?" She whispered to herself.

Colin stood in the middle of all of the warriors.

"We will return, and we will be victorious!" They all cheered around him.

"We will annihilate them, and stand over their mutilated corpses." One yelled.

After the pep talk, they all headed to bed. It took them all awhile, but they eventually came down from their high.

Colin found himself in sweet dreams instead of dark nightmares.

"Colin! I missed you!" Adelisa ran up to him and jumped in his arms. She gave him a small kiss, and nuzzled her head in his chest.

"I missed you as well, my love."

"Are you okay? Did you get hurt?" She asked worriedly, examining his face for signs of pain.

"I am fine, how were you while I was gone?"

"Fine, I just missed you so much!" She smiled.

"Colin, come on, get up." He lurched up, hands in his hair.

"Fucking hell." He groaned.

"That must've been one hell of a dream you had to wake up like that." Leo snickered

He growled lowly in reply.

"Well, we need to leave soon." He walked off, leaving Colin in amongst the others in the room.

He got up and strapped on his sword once again. He left the chaotic barracks and went to fetch Samurai.
