Every Christmas after the war, the whole Weasley family would stay at the Burrow from before lunch on Christmas Eve to whenever they wanted after Christmas Day. It was a whole event- and everyone loved it. Kids would be running around, adults joking and retelling stories- strictly the happy ones- from the past, Mrs. Weasley's cooking filled the house with warmth and a comforting aroma, and everyone was happy because their family was together. On Christmas morning, they would all open presents after having breakfast since there were so many people that it took quite a while.
Ron loved Christmas, but he had to admit that out of Christmas's in recent years, he loved this one the most. That year marked the seventh anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, and Ron and Hermione were currently the only married couple without children, so they sat on the ground in the back of the circle that surrounded the tree so they could still see the children opening presents, but they were still away from the slight chaos. They handed out and received presents at the beginning and watched now as the younger Weasley's and Potters opened all of theirs. Ron slouched against the wall with Hermione's head leaning against his stomach. While Ron's one hand played with Hermione's curly, dark hair, his other was intertwined with Hermione's, both of which sat comfortably on top of her jumper as Ron rubbed his thumb softly against the back of her hand. Despite Hermione having many of Molly's sweaters that had big H's on them, Hermione had put on one with an R on this morning. She told Ron "I just grabbed the wrong one out of the drawer," but he knew that wasn't why she wore it; she told him that way too often for that to always be true. Although he tells her that now that meant he had "absolutely nothing to wear to open presents," (to which she smirked, giggled, and replied, "Good.") he secretly loved her wearing his sweaters.
As the couple watched over all of their nieces, nephews, and all of Ron's siblings and their spouses open presents, their was a small part of both of them that knew that one day that would be them. With kids. With babies on Christmas opening presents. But for now, they were content with just each other.
However, underneath of the R of the sweater, deep down inside of Hermione, there was a little baby starting to grow. Neither of them knew. And neither of them expected it. And in a few weeks the were going to get the best news of their life. Next Christmas, they were going to have a baby if their own.
