Day two
Guitar Boy

Mary|17

"How're you feeling?" Nadia questions as she pokes a straw into a milk carton. "You seem way off today."

"nauseous, dizzy, in the middle of an existential crisis, overall just great, yeah?" I cover my face with my hands.

   "Is that makeup?"

"What? No, of course not. I don't wear that kind of stuff." I keep my hands glued to my face, mumbling into them.

"-This song is dedicated to a girl named Mary." A voice on a megaphone speaks loudly, grabbing the attention of the entire cafeteria.

"You've got to be kidding..." I close my eyes under my palms, internally dying. The sound of a single acoustic guitar plays, the first strum being the sweetest.

"What the snicker doodle?! Mary, this guy just serenaded you!" Nadia loses her cool, screaming in my ear.

"Um no," I scoff, "there's probably some other Mary in this school." I throw on my hood and walk the opposite direction of Nadia and everyone else.

Shawn|

Once Mary stands up and leaves, I immediately stop strumming, whispering to my friends, "MISSION ABORT."

They pull me behind the curtains and I begin to have some sort of panic attack. "Was my song not good enough? Maybe she didn't like it. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god."

"For a sophomore, I'd figure she'd like a guy to sing to her. Guess not." Nick shrugs, giving me a sympathetic smile.

"One of you guys need go out there and to set things straight with her." I continue to panic, demanding, mostly at mikey, to fix this. They all stare blankly at me and I take the guitar strap over my head, removing it. "I'll go talk to her." I take a step and they grab onto my arms.

"You cant, Shawn. We need to go on with our plan."
