Consuming the bag of fries I bought myself on the way here, to Mary's, I wait on her front porch, watching the sunset and waiting for her to open. I give another try at the doorbell and still, no response.
The door opens as I was to knock, I freeze. "Hi." Nadia, one of the only people Mary's close to, answers. As the door hangs open, I look over Nadia to hopefully catch a glimpse of Mary. I want to know that she's okay after what I did.
"What did you do?" She asks, already knowing something went wrong in the plan. "Come on, spill the tea." She invites me in, but I'd rather not.
"Well... I sort of kissed her." Her eyes bulge from her head and she frowns. To spare her feelings, I say no more. I totally get that she feels this way, I mean, who wouldn't have a teensy crush on a person they knew their entire life?
"Is that all?" She rushes to close the door on me, but I hold it open by standing in front of it. "Not exactly. Could you tell her to meet me at- actually, could I get her number?"
"She doesn't have a phone." Nadia shrugs, a smug look on her face. She twirls her brown hair, biting her glossy bottom lip. She twists side to side slowly, creases forming on her all black top.
"Oh, well I guess I'll see her tomorrow."
"Tomorrow's Saturday though." Her eyes narrow at me as I said was was coming to see Mary. If you look closely into Nadia's eyes, you could see a huge fire of jealousy emitting from her petty emotions. She isn't doing a good job of keeping them hidden just by the way she twitches when I mention Mary.
It really is bad that she does that because Mary is her friend, and she agrees to get her to be with me.
"Nadia? Are you okay?" I push her shoulder lightly to check if she was even listening. (In reality and not in a daydream.) "hellooo?" She was leaning in and I put my hand on her face to stop whatever she was about to do.
"S-sorry." She apologises immediately, coughing afterwards.
"Well... bye then."
"Shawn, I like you."
"I like Mary."
"Jesus Nadia, who's at th-" Mary. My heart races, i brush past Nadia, letting myself in to get to Mary. "get away from me." Mary groans, running up the stairs.
"Mary." i chase after her up the stairs, she runs into her room attempting to lock it behind her, but i get in the way before the door shuts. Mary groans, falling flat onto her bed, face first. Nadia follows up, banging on the door. "Mary, i swear i didn't mean to kiss y- well i did, but i didn't think you'd be mad."
"i'm not mad..."
"you're not?" i step towards her, she bolts up, her face redder than before. "ugh. no, i'm not mad- i'm just really upset that you thought it was okay to force yourself onto me without my consent."
"i asked though." i sigh, with my hand out, thinking what the hell? she lumbers up, throwing her hands up onto her cheeks, sliding them down dramatically. "i don't care if you asked before doing it. You're basically telling me that if someone asked if they could stick peanut butter into my butt hole, and i said no, that it's okay if they do it anyway because they asked. like no. it's most definitely NOT okay."
"oh...Can i kiss you now?"
"w-what? No! that's not what i meant." I press my lips onto hers anyway and she fails to pull away. Nadia still bangs at the door shouting, "mary, i swear to freaking god that you better not be doing anything!"
"what's her problem?"
Mary wipes her lips, shaking her head, "just because we kissed this time, doesn't mean anything. now get out of my house." she motions me for her bedroom door, letting me out. Nadia leaps for Mary, jealousy emitting off of her grunts as she attacks her friend.
"nadia, stop!" i yell as i pull her off of Mary. Mary recovers, climbing weakly onto her bed, rubbing her cheek from where nadia threw her punch.
"She k-kissed you, didn't she?" nadia stands up from the ground, meeting my eyes and rubbing my thumb over my lip. i push her hand away from my face and smile, "i kissed her, and she let me." This is a day i'm gonna remember for a long time.
