Mrs. Dun's POV

I heard a knock at the door. We (me and my husband) ran to the door and opened it. I saw my son, Josh, and his friend, Tyler, standing there. Behind them was Max and some odd girl in her 20's with brown hair tied into a braid. I just assumed that she was Josh's girlfriend.

"Oh my goodness! How lovely to see you! Come in! Come in!"

I saw Max roll her eyes as she stepped into the house. I pinched her arm. She winced. Josh looked to Max. He stepped back so he could hold Max's hand while we walked to the living room.

Josh POV

I sat down on the leather couch and our long, stressful discussion had begun.

"Look. Mom. Dad. I love you guys. But this is absolutely ridiculous. Look at what you've done to her." I said, pointed to her eye. My dad rolled his eyes.

"Max deserves this. We discipline each of our kids the way we need to." My dad replied.

"So punching your kid in the face for standing up for herself is appropriate?"

He stayed quiet.

"She has to stay here Josh. We are gonna keep treating her the way we treat her. I don't care if she's treated like a fucking slave. I don't even care if she dies."

"WHAT THE FUCK MOM! SHE'S YOUR FUCKING KID! I'M CALLING THE POLICE!" I said. I went to grab my phone.

"Then where the hell would she go? To one of those orphanages? To the street? Josh there's a great chance you wouldn't see her again." My dad said.

I looked over to Max. She looked at me with excitement. I looked back to my parents.

"I'll take her in. The four kids you treated correctly agreed that you should be thrown in jail. I'll take care of her. Cause I actually love her."

Turns out Tyler had already called the cops. They came and arrested my parents. Later on I signed the papers and I was officially Max's guardian. She tackled me with a hug after I put the pen down.
